Am finally home, after five days, three airports in three different cities, four plane rides, five taxi rides, one hotel room, a couple of bus rides and many crappy airline meals.

I'm currently ensconced on my couch in my jimjams, eating chocolate and thinking, "Gee, I've eaten a lot of crap this week and I'm feeling a bit fat." Hence the chocolate.

Blah blah blah...will start diet tomorrow...blah blah...

Except I have school tomorrow and that's always a bit of a fraught day, what with the not finishing until 8pm and being starving by 6pm and the all the available food outlets on campus closing while I'm in class leaving only the vending machines full of chips and chocolate to satisfy my needs. So yeah, maybe Tuesday.

Did I mention that the chocolate I'm eating is Russian?

Sydney was fun. Exhausting but fun. The conference was really interesting and would make no sense to anyone who wasn't a librarian and involved with the collection, organisation, storage and dissemination of digital knowledge assets, so I won't bore you with the details. I got meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] engenda and have a great old time with her, but I completely failed to see either the Sydney harbour bridge or the opera house? Who goes to Sydney and does not see two of Australia's most prominent cultural icons? Me, apparently.

Brisbane was just gorgeous. The weather was absolutely perfect, and it was so good to spend time with R again. The house she's living in at the moment is so fantastic. It has this huge deck and we spent most of our time out there, reading the weekend papers and eating various goodies she had whipped up for my visit. Yesterday we went out and rummaged through some cute vintage shops in Paddington, including this one where it had all these signs like do not handle shoes unless you intend to buy and please use top of hangers to move clothes on rack. Do not handle clothes unless you intend to buy. Whatever happened to try before you buy?

Last night we just stayed home and watched Finding Nemo while we ate ourselves sick on this huge block of chocolate that R's partner had bought for us. Oh, and the people next door had this huge screaming match which necessitated the pausing of the movie to listen and much discussion about thin walls and overly sensitive persons who can't take no for an answer.

I woke to find the world had gone insane, again, but attempted to not let it get me down.

We didn't get much of a chance to do anything today because my flight was leaving at 3pm, but I did take R and J out for coffee and cake this morning to say thank you for opening their home to me. But, god I only just made it to Brisbane airport in time. There was the most *enormous* queue when we got there because apparently they were backed up in baggage handling. There were so many people waiting in the end they just expedited the check-in for each flight as it became due. I think I made it onto the plane with about five minutes spare.

The Sydney to Melbourne leg of the journey was much better. Got there in time to check-in with about forty minutes to spare. So I went to the loo, bought a coffee and some doughnuts and some postcards which I managed to write on and post before I left. [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine and [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle, they're on their way and I hope you can read my writing. I was feeling somewhat drained and it's a little all over the place.

But you have no idea how glad I was to get home. I've enjoyed my week away, but I'll enjoy sleeping in my own bed tonight even more. The hotel bed was only just adequate, and I had the top bunk in the room R's step-daughters sleep in when their dad has them on weekends. Also, their next door neighbours are renovating and apparently this necessitates the use of a bobcat to level the backyard at 7.30 on a Saturday morning. That the room I was sleeping in overlooked said back yard was a mere coincidence.

Okay, I've attempted to catch up on my flist, but after five days it's just too ginormous to deal with. So hugs to anyone whp needs a hug and well done to anyone who did something cleaver while I was away.

And now my attention is wandering, my back hurts and I think my head is about to explode from blocked sinuses, so I suspect it's time for me to go to bed.
