I go this email from my course coordinator today and it made me unaccountably happy:
Hi [Laylee's real name],
Just checking your student record on Callista. When you complete IMS5033 you will have met the requirements for recognition by both ALIA and also RMAA/ASA. You will have MIMS specialisations in KM and ERA, as well as your prior qualification in the LIS area.
Kind regards,
[Laylee's course coordinator]
Woot! What it all means is that I don't have to do another round of professional practice like I thought I would have to to be eligible for RMAA (Records Management Association of Australia) and ASA {Australian Society of Archivists) accreditation.
This is very good news because I was worried that, although I'd received an exemption for professional practice when I started this thing, I might have to do another round for the RMAA/ASA qualification which would probably draw it out yet another three months. I already have ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) accreditation from my LIS degree, but this means that I am nearly almost even more ridiculously over-qualified than I was before. And the best thing is, I don't even have to join any of these groups (and thus save myself several hundred dollars in membership fees) I just need to be able to say that I'm eligible for professional recognition by one or more of them when I apply for jobs.
Woot!
