OMG, [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum sent me shoes!

I got home on Friday and there was a card from the post office telling me that I had a parcel to pick up. This puzzled me a great deal because I knew I wasn't expecting anything from Amazon, and my past eBay purchased was small enough for it to go into my letter box. Fortunately the parcel was waiting for me at the Alphington PO which opens Saturday mornings, so I get up bright and early and wend my way down there to discover that Hilary had sent me a calendar of the collection held in the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum. Imagine a new pair of shoes for every day of the year! I'm heaven, complete and utter heaven!

Thank you so very much! *squishes [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum*

In other news I've been in the old home town for mum's birthday, and OMG hot! I think it was about 40c today and only marginally cooler yesterday. And the lake is totally dry. I nearly cried when I saw it yesterday. All the swans have gone - they relocated them to somewhere near Camperdown a couple of weeks ago - and all that is left is a lot of dry lake bed, a couple of puddles and some dead lake weed. It's so very depressing. The whole town is on stage four water restrictions, which means people are banned from watering their gardens, pools and spas can't be filled and no washing of cars except car windows, mirrors and lights for safety purposes, and only with a bucket filled from a tap and not a hose. My sister's garden is one big wilted mess and her lawn is pretty much dead, but unless it rains all she can do is just let it go.

Anyhow, we took mum out for yum cha for her birthday today, and my niece got set upon by a gaggle of Chinese tourists at the restaurant. They thought she was the cutest thing since Peking Duck! Before my sister could do anything Z was grabbed and all these middle-aged Chinese ladies were having their photo taken with her. They tried to include F but he wasn't having any of it and burst into tears when this one man wanted to pick him up. He's very shy around strangers and it was all a bit much for him. A cheese and vegemite sandwich fixed him up, but it was touch and go for a while there.

After lunch we all went back to my sister's house for coffee and birthday cake, and once that was done we'll all pretty much slid into a food coma. I fell asleep on F's Bob the Builder fold-out couch, with Z lying on floor next to me and N at my feet. Mum and my brother took up the couches, while the BiL was the only one who stayed awake. I slept the whole afternoon away and when I woke up I had a stiff neck and felt like I could sleep for another eight hours.

According to the weather report it's only going to be 20c tomorrow. I do hope so. Another day of high 30's weather would just about kill me.

Two weeks until Christmas!

ETA: It's just started raining. Keep your fingers crossed that it lasts!
