I just made an appointment to give blood. I've never given blood in my life but I've always thought that I should and right now it's more important than ever to do so. If you're in Australia and you want to make an appointment to donate, you can register online with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

My sister had a breakthrough in the campaign to get mum to move into a retirement village today.

We've identified this great place near where she currently lives, but the only problem was, we weren't sure if they would let her bring her dog with her and kept getting conflicting information each time we asked. One person said they'd let new residents bring their current pet with them; another said they'd accept cats but not dogs, while someone else said they wouldn't let the residents have pets at all. Well, N finally spoke the to manager today and hurrah, they do allow dogs!

We wouldn't have stood a chance of getting mum out of the house if she couldn't bring her dog with her or have him come and live with one of us. But I can't take him because I don't have the room, N won't take him because she doesn't like him and he's not the sort of dog you can have around kids, so that left my brother who is now in Warnambool. He can potentially take him, but he'd be very reluctant to do so because of his own dog, and mum would hate not being able to see the pooch on a regular basis. We were trying (and failing) to come up with a solution on the weekend so this news is the best ever. Now we just have to get mum to put her name down on the waiting list and start getting her house ready to sell.

Oh dear, I'm going to have to find a new home for the 300+ sewing patterns I have stored there, aren't I?
