laylee: (Sam and Dean)
I am back from the wilds of the old home town. Mother is much better. Still a worry on a long-term basis, but much better than she was. And I have new boots!

I also ran into an old friend who I haven't seen since before I moved to Melbourne, which is getting on for fifteen years ago. Talk about a blast from the past! It's quite frightening when the fresh-faced twenty something you remember from your days of yor has suddenly turned into a pushing forty father of one. He still cute though ;~)

However I couldn't help but notice how the entire city has suddenly turned into God's waiting room. I scarcely saw a face under sixty in the four days I was there. And many of the young'uns I did see were scraggy looking teenaged mums pushing a stroller around while sucking on a cigarette. There was the odd lady who lunched and my sister and her friends of course. But mostly it was pensioners lining up to fill their prescriptions at the UFS Dispensary or scary looking girls juggling a wailing baby and shooting dirty looks at their boy friend/probable father of their child who was ignoring them both while he ate his chips and gravy and sucked on a ciggie out in the smokers courtyard.

Yep, the old home town is class personified. But then again, that's what I get for spending time at the shopping centre closest to the largest housing commission estate in town. At least K-Mart was mildly entertaining.

But I'm very glad to be home and sleeping in my own bed again. And today was a lovely sunny day so I went for a long bike ride to Brunswick and bought some supplies for my latest sewing project. I also re-watched Supernatural from Monday night and how did I miss the not so veiled Brady Bunch reference? Cousin Oliver's diner???
