Please spare a thought for the people who have lost their possessions, homes and their lives in the Victorian bushfires this weekend. More than sixty people have died and the authorities are predicting that the death toll will climb to over one hundred once the clean-up process begins. The towns of Marysville and Kinglake have been all but destroyed, and the fires are still threatening dozens of homes and communities throughout Victoria. I remember the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 and I'd never in my life seen anything so terrible, but this is just horrific.
ETA: An appeal has been launched to help victims of the fire. You can make donations through the Australian Red Cross.
ETA 2: The death toll has risen to 84 and includes former channel nine news reader Brian Naylor and his wife Moiree.

I. Can't. Even.
*more hugs* Bearing in mind that my geography is non-existent, are you and the folks in the Old Home Town safe?

There weren't any fires near the old home town, thank god. The worse hit areas are around Gippsland and the Yarra Ranges. Several small towns have been raised to the ground and some areas are still under threat. It's just horrific.
