I just have to wonder if they're giving us the nod and saying, yeah we hear you and acknowledge your existence, or are they trying to put a leash on us and keep us from getting too out of hand.

Bit of both I suspect. You've got to hand it to them, though, not many shows would be willing to directly acknowledge the crazy fangirls that keep them going. Most would rather pretend that we didn't exist!
