For sn100 challenge #18: A New Year
"You're sure she's coming?"
Dan grinned at him. "I dunno, Sam. Why don't you ask her?"
"Come on Danny, pleeease."
"No, really, you should ask her."
Sam slumped dejectedly against the kitchen counter. "Like she's gonna take notice of some stupid freshman."
Dan clapped him on the shoulder. "Come on, Sammy, cheer up. It's New Year's Eve and you never know what's gonna happen on the stroke of midnight."
"With my luck I'll turn into a pumpkin."
"Or you might get lucky with Deirdre."
"You think so?"
"One never knows, does one?"
"Midnight," Sam said wistfully.
"The magic hour."
Finally, Sam smiled. "Yeah."
