They Say What They Say

My favourite work shoes decided that today was a good day today. It doesn't surprise me. They've been on the way out for a while not, but today I noticed that the sole is quite cracked and the upper is starting to pull away.

But the most annoying part is, now I have to go and find new shoes. You wouldn't think it would be such a problem for someone like me who has a deep and abiding love for shoes. However my deep and abiding love only seems to extend to frivolous bits of leather with ridiculous heels and no discernable arch support. Perfectly okay if all you are doing is sitting around sipping cocktails (not that I do much of that these days) but not so good for running around like a mad thing at work, fetching and carry from collections that a spread over three floors.

I do have a nice pair of boots on lay-by that I earmarked for work wear, but there's a couple of hundred dollars left to pay on them and I can't come up with the readies in so short a period without falling short for other essentials like food and rent. But I'm loathed to go out and buy the first pair of elcheapos I find that I can remotely tolerate, simply because I know that I'll end up hating them and cursing myself for trying to save a penny when I should have just blown the budget on something that is practical, yet stylish (and therefore expensive.)

Plus who has the time to go shopping these days?

God, if they'd just held out for another month or so I'd have my boots and would have to deal. But that's life I guess. It forces you to deal whether you want to or not.
