Oh my god could [insert name] and [insert name] just have sex already? I am so tired of the URST I am about to pull my hair out!

I've just heard that phoebesmum has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Anyone who has been involved in the Sports Night fandom in the last ten years will know what a passionate fan she was and will no doubt have read at least one of the many fics she produced during the fandom's heyday.
But more importantly she was an extremely loving and generous friend and life feels a little emptier now that her valiant battle with the crab has gotten the better of her.
Vale, sweet Hilary. You are sorely missed.

Happy new year, everyone. It is around 10.20pm and currently 36C in Melbourne and I am looking forward to not sleeping at all tonight. Even the cat has given up and he has decided that cuddling up to the loo on the cool bathroom tiles is far preferable to the great outdoors.
Even though December started out quietly, the last three weeks were hellishly busy and I spent all of the week between Christmas and new year Not At Home and I completely failed to send out any Christmas cards what so ever. But thank you to those of you who sent one to me, specifically willows_mom,
malnpudl and
aprilmay430. They were safely received and much appreciated.
I'm sure I had more to say but it is so hot that my brain s literally fried. I'll get back to once I've chilled out a little.
*sigh*

I seem to have a cat perched precariously on my leg.
Meanwhile the screen on my laptop seems to have died. Not the laptop it's self, mind you, just the screen. Last night it started doing this odd flickering thing and then all of a sudden it went black. Now it will light up for a few seconds when I turn it on and then die.
I'm not sure what to do. On the one hand it is about eight years old and replacing it is not outside the realm of possibility. On the other hand it's got a lot of photos and music on it that I'd like to keep, not to mentioning of my fic and thing like my CV and a few work documents that I'd want to extract before discarding it. I might take it to one of the local computer doctors and see what they say. If it's not going to cost too much to extract my data I'll do that then look at buying a new one after Christmas. Because really, it's not like I don't have access to a computer at work if I really need one.
*sigh*
ETA - I now have a cat perched awkwardly on my chest. Clingy cat is clingy.
