It would seem that my VCR decided that today was a good day to die. And so it did. Die, that is.

It was fine when I left for work this morning. But at some stage during the day it deced that ejecting tapes was no longer a thing it wanted to do, and it would much prefer to make strange noises while firmly hanging on to the tape in it's innards.

The up-shot of all of this is, I now have a new VCR. Because, really, a fangirl's gotta have the ability to tape shows featuring cute boys when she's not at home, as well as play all those videos she hasn't yet replaced with DVDs. And the ironic thing is, despite the fact that I selected what was ostensibly the most expensive VCR in the shop, it still cost a third of what I paid for my old one six years ago.

Partly because no-one's buying videos any more, probably - just to play old tapes, and until they can get a recordable DVD. But DVD players are a ridiculous price now, too, over here you can pick up a perfectly adequate multistandard for less than the price of a week's groceries. Not that I'm complaining about this.

And didn't DVD players go down in price in a ridiculously short space of time? It took nearly a decade for VCRs to drop below the $600-$700 mark over here.

I did actually dither over a DVD recorder they had there, but it was a brand I'd never heard of and was a bit hesitant about shelling out for something that could conk out in six months time. Anyway, my brother-in-law can get them wholesale so when I do buy one I'll probably get it through him.

Yay for new VCR! Fangirl on!
And where are you getting your new icons from? They're cute :).
Hmm, since this is getting random, I might as well go for broke and ask if you've seen Manolo's Shoe Blog in which Manolo recommends shoes in an amusing fashion. (Link brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] buriramtourakom)

I do to. I like DVDs for all the extras you can get on them, but there's something nice and simple about a tape.

I was kind of the same way about cassettes vs. CDs, but I did eventually become a CD fan. (Of course, my loss of my Walkman may have something to do with that. . . . )

And records vs. CDs. Of course I'm already thinking about buying a DVD recorder now they've fallen in price so I guess I'm just as techno conscious as anyone.
