In lieu of having and actual boyfriend or anything of the like, I took my sister on a date for Valentine's Day today. She's in Melbourne all week for a training thing for work, so we hooked up in the city tonight. First of all we went to a travel goods shop where I got a money belt, padlocks and security tags for Hanoi, and she bought me this great backpack to carry all my extraneous stuff like books and water on the plane.
After that we wandered down Collins street and looked at all the clothes we couldn't afford to buy, then made our way to Chilli Cafe in Russell street where Pad Thai Prawns and Chilli Noodles with Chicken and Seafood awaited us. Very yummy food, and so cheap! We shared both dishes and they were both wonderful. Unfortunately the cafe no longer have the to-die-for mango and sticky coconut rice dessert that they used to serve, and we couldn't find a movie we wanted to go and see, so we wandered a little further up Russell to Lonsdale street where we spent a bit of time at the chocolate cafe in QV scarfing down Belgium Waffles with strawberries and chocolate sauce, and drinking chocolate frappes while a sparrow family (mum, dad and fluffy teenage chick) fluttered around looking for crumbs.
Big W was next where N bought a book to read and some sticker things for the nephew, and succumbed to the pressure of mass marketing and bought The Da Vinci Code to read on the plane. It was only $13.00 so I really couldn't go wrong.
Once we'd done all that we were both feeling fairly tired, what with the impending food coma and all, so we started back up Swanston street, admiring all the pretty horses waiting to take romantic couples on carriage rides, before parting company at Flinders street where I got the train home and she went back to her hotel.
All in all it was one of the best Valentine's Day's that i've ever had. Were catching up again on Thursday to go to Ikea in Richmond, but tonight was a really good example of just how spending time with someone you love, even in a familial way, can be the best thing of all.
ETA: Note to self - I am not getting a cold. Just because I have a vaguely scratchy throat and a slight sniffle, that does not mean I am getting a cold. now way, no how. You hear me?
