They Say What They Say

I failed to make pancakes again today. I am determined to have them at some stage this week, but obviously not today. Also it occurs to me that I haven't said much about my trip, nor have I posted any photos. I will do both, but I need to find my sea legs again or something before I do. I did, however, post all the postcards I promised to send to various people, while I was still in the country even, so you should receive them some time soon.

Runaway American Dream by lordessrenegade, a due South AU wherein Ace Leary, motor mechanic and star of the Willison baseball team (who also happens to bear more than a passing resemblance to Callum Keith Rennie) meets Benton Fraser, RCMP, and chemistry ensues.

Oh, and it's 23 days until my birthday.

I just paid my rent. From Hanoi. I feel strangely energized by the power of the interwebs.

Well, my time here is nearly done. I leave for the airport in three hours and I've just finished my last minute shopping (a (fake) Rolex for the Brother-In-Law to go with his (genuine)Tag, and some pointy hats for the Shanty boys.) Not sure how I'm going to fit the hats into my suitcase, but I'll work it out. I even found my way to Rolex street without my faithful companion of the last few days, my copy of Lonely Planet: Vietnam. I guess I've become acclimated - vaguely. I know I will never again complain about riding up Alexandra parade in the mornings now that I've crossed the road in Hanoi peak hour. And I never did make it to see Ho Chi Minh, but I guess I had to leave somethings for next time.

Now all I have to do is catch up on my flist.

I'm in Hanoi, OMG!!!!!!

It's big and noisy and the streets are very busy. Everyone walks on the street because the footpath is usually blocked by mopeds and bicycles. I've nearly been run down by a moped countless times and have become adept at saying no to cyclo drivers and guys who want to take me around on motorbikes. The shoes aren't that great, but the silk handbags are to die for! My hotel is okay and my bed is as hard as a plank. I've walked so much my feet are going to stage a revolution and my chopstick technique has improved out of sight!

I'm packed, I've done a million loads of laundry, I'm yet to vacuum but I'll get to that. I haven't had any chocolate today, but I'll get to that as well, probably after I've vacuumed. I've moved all my plants down stairs so my neighbour can water them, and my sister has the name and address of the hotel. My brother is picking me up at 10.15 so I can be at the airport by 11pm. I've been staying calm by watching all of My Life as a Dog and reveling in the sheer beauty that is Callum Keith Rennie in this series (especially when he's on skates) and may move to Men With Brooms for a bit of a Paul Gross fix before I leave. Or maybe I'll watch Wilby Wonderful so I can have two for the price of one. I'm sure I've forgotten something, but for the life of me I can't think what.
