I've hurt my back. Well, part of my back. The spot over my right shoulder blade is unbelievably painful at the moment. It also makes certain things like buttering toast and putting on clothing somewhat difficult. I've no idea how this has happened. I was fine when I went to bed, but sometime during the night it went ping!

It's a good thing I have something like 70 sick days saved up because there is no way I can go to work today. It's a little hard to concentrate when every time you move your back screams in pain. I've made an appointment with the doctor for later today, but meanwhile I'm going to make a cup of tea, sit on the couch and try not to move too much.

So I toddled off to the doctor at the student health service this afternoon, and after poking and prodding and asking me many embarrassing questions she surmised that she had no idea what was wrong with me, but that it could be a partial pneumothorax (collapsed lung) 0_0

After I finished boggling at her, she gave me a referral letter, got reception to call a taxi and sent me up to accident and emergency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for an x-ray.

Why is it that when you're not feeling well, people like taxi drivers and triage nurses decide that today is a nice day to be patronising and completely indifferent to the pain and suffering of others?

Anyway, I saw the emergency doctor who made me answer the sames questions that both the other doctor and the triage nurse asked me, and then he sent me for an x-ray. The radiologist was very nice, but I could have strangled the woman at radiology reception due to her complete lack of care or interest in her job and the people she is meant to help. I mean, pardon me for interrupting your very important non-work related conversation with a cute guy. I'm only standing here IN PAIN!

After the x-rays were examined, emergency doctor pronounced my lungs to be whole. But he, like student health doctor, really had no idea what was going on and sent me home with the advice to take it easy and a packet of anti-inflammatories.

I'm now pondering the essay I have to finish, and planning on not going to work, and maybe even school, tomorrow while I try not to move too much or inhale too deeply.

Oh joy-fun.

ETA: Sneezing has just assumed a whole new level of pain.
