I spent way too much money on going out last night and I didn't even go very far, just dinner in Brunswick Street with T and B and then back to Shanty for drinks and fun. Considering Shanty is on the corner or Brunswick Street and is about a forty-five minute walk from my place, I kind of feel like I should have more to show for the amount of money I went through :~\

But I was introduced to the wonderful world of Wii bowling last night and OMG, it's so much fun! I'm generally not very good at video games because my hand-eye coordination sucks, but because Wii is so very interactive, I feel like I have more control over what I'm doing. And even though I didn't win my match, I came damn close and getting a strike on Wii bowling is just as fabulous as getting one in real life. Plus, no heave bowling balls to drop on my foot!

Yesterday my quest to replace all my work pants finally bore fruit. I popped into Brown Sugar before my class in the city and found not one but two pairs of pants that both fit and are very flattering. I always find buying pants and skirts fairly fraught. I'm a classic hourglass and it seems like everything these days is made for women with no discernible waist, hips or bum. I can get away with making most of my skirts, but pants are harder because my tailoring skillz are quite rusty (hence the sewing class I'm taking at the moment) and I don't feel confident enough to do a good job. I was beginning to think that I'd have to put up with the same old pants I've been wearing for four years for another season, but once I pick-up the ones I put on layby yesterday, those are going straight to the opp shop.

Suddenly I have huge pile of fics in my to-read folder. I also have to hang out my laundry, go rescue my car from where I left it last night, vacuum my flat and go to the supermarket. Guess which one I want to do most?

Even though I had a late start thanks to le hangover, today I...

- Power walked from Fairfield to Fitzroy in just under forty minutes. That's about six kilometers, I think.
- Picked up the turtleneck jumper I had on layby at Country Road in Lygon street.
- Bought groceries.
- Bought Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Kiss Me Kate, Meet Me In St. Louis and Local Hero on DVD from Borders with the gift card the girls at work gave to me for my birthday.
- Bought petrol.
- Carted everything home.
- Put the groceries away.
- Started a pot of rhubarb chutney.
- Dusted and vacuumed the living room while the chutney was cooking.
- Sterilised all the empty jars I had in the cupboard and filled them with chutney!

With all that accopmlished I felt quite justified in changing into my JPs while dinner cooked. I'm now watching An American in Paris and admiring Gene kelly's buns. Oh my, that man had great buns! And he was no slouch in the arms and shoulders department either. Plus I love Leslie Caron's look in the perfume shop scene. The straight black skirt drawn in at the waist with a leather belt and worn with a black turtleneck - her only accessories being a red scarf knotted at the neck and her beautiful, bright smile. So French, so chic!

See! )

I might even be able to get away with the same look myself. I have a couple of fine wool black turtlenecks and my simple A-line skirt pattern would go very well in black. All I'd need is a nice black belt and a little joi de verve and I'm all set!

ETA: I've moved onto Kiss Me Kate. Such a fun movie! I wish I had legs like Ann Miller, and Howard Keel fills out a pair of tights quite nicely as well. Plus, wee!Bob Fosse being brilliant in 'From This Moment On'. What's not to love?
