I'm getting rid of some shoes. Yes, I know. Me getting rid of shoes! But I've given the pair in question enough time for them to start feeling comfortable and I don't think it's ever going to happen. I wore them to work today and while they didn't give me blisters or anything, they just don't have enough give in them. I think the lining is too rigid or something. Whatever. They've gone into the opp shop bag now and that's the end of that.

We've got a birthday at work tomorrow and normally I'd be whipping up some fabulous concoction, but the birthday boy has celiacs and so he's very limited in what he can eat. However there's a old classic that I've been wanting to try out for some time now, which means tomorrow D and the rest of the team will be celebrating with Elizabeth David's Gateau au Chocolate et aux Amands (chocolate and almond cake).
The other day at work I discovered that we have a fist edition of her French Provincial Cooking in the general collection no less, and it's quite an entertaining read for a cook book. I love the way she gives the history of the food she's writing about, not just the recipes. It may not have the glossy full-colour layout of a Jamie Oliver or Nigella Lawson, but Elizabeth was a writer and food historian as well as a cook and her love of good, simple food made with the freshest ingredients leaps out at you from every page. I've already decided that for mother's day mum is getting La Quiche Lorraine (quiche Lorraine), Salade de Saison (green salad) served with with Oeufs Durs Mayonnaise (egg mayonnaise (although ED would probably insist on a simple vinaigrette, but I want to have a go at making mayonnaise)) and Gateau au Chocolate et aux Amands for dessert. She'll love it. I hope!

For the first time since about February I've made it to gym three times this week. The treadclimber continues to thrill, even though it feels almost like torture when I'm on it, and I've discovered a whole new way of doing crunches that is a revelation! I do need a new sports bra, though, because mine has too much bounce these days, and I also need to update my track pants for a pair with pockets so I don't keep dropping the swipe card I need to get in and out of the members area. But on the whole the change of venue seems to be working, even if I sometimes only have time to go once a week. Of course it doesn't help that I just hopped into the cooking chocolate leftover from making the cake :~(

The third season of Supernatural is being released on DVD on August 28th. Even though the season has somewhat patchy this year I still can't wait to me some Sam 'n' Dean!

Speaking of bras, I'm watching this show where Trinny and Susannah are going around checking out women's boobs. There's a lot of very scary boobs in the world, but it really is amazing what good foundation garments can do for the girls.

Thank good it's Friday tomorrow. And I have the day off on Monday. Woot!
