I made a momentous decision today.
Well, what passes for a momentous decision in Layleeland.
Today I decided to dump the gym at work and go back to my old one.
You see, I never entirely bonded with work!gym and only joined it because I felt like I needed a change of scene. It's so much bigger and busier than old!gym and even though I got used to it after a while, I never felt entirely welcome there. The staff are indifferent at best and down-right rude on occasion; some days it's so crowded I'd give up trying to get onto the specific piece of cardio equipment I'd want to use, and there's so much testosterone floating around the main weight room that I never felt comfortable working out down there. This meant I was usually stuck trying to do my thing in the smaller upstairs section, which always left me feeling like I hadn't worked as hard as I should. But the biggest problem was (aside from occasionally running into people I work with) if I wanted to go to gym on the weekend or while I was on leave, I'd have to go to work to do so and that just defeats the purpose of weekends and holidays.
So, anyway, after a particularly disappointing encounter with the staff at work!gym tonight I decided to drop into old!gym on my way home. Before I knew it I was singing up for a new membership and I have to say, just walking in there made me feel so much happier. It was like catching up with an old friend who you'd lost touch with, you know? And they have this special membership deal running at the moment so not only do I not have to deal with idiot undergrads taking up all the treadmills anymore, I'll also be saving around $20 a month on gym fees! Plus, I get the sauna back, something I've sorely missed while going to work!gym. They can keep their Olympic-sized swimming pool; give me a tacky little wood-paneled sauna any time :~)
