I'm watching the making of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Oompa Loompas aren't freaking me out as much as they did in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I mean I'm not five any more and easily startled. Well, actually, it's still very easy to startle me, but I'm not afraid of little orange beings who sing and dance and hang out with a weird guy in a purple coat. No, not at all.

You'd still be pretty damn scared if you met one coming round the corner. So would I. Johnny Depp as Willie Wonka out-freaks Gene Wilder, who was warm and fuzzy by comparison, any day of the week though.

I think I need to read the books again, to see if it was the film Oompa Loompas or the book Oompa Loompas that freaked me out. Could be both. Could just be my often childish imagination.

Weren't they black in the book, and they had to change them to that scary orange for the movie so as not to give offence? It's all a long time ago now ...

I can't remember what colour they were in the book. I think they're blue in the new movie, but the scary orange from the old movie is something I will never forget.
