who said that?

LJ has started sending me all the comments it held hostage during the recent technical hooha, so if you receive a comment from me that makes no sense what so ever because the moment has passed, um, that's why.

Most fun this week: [livejournal.com profile] ds_recs social get-together. The sheer volume of fanishness going on over there is just amazing! I think the thread is still open, so if you're a due South fan of big or small proportions, go post and then sit back and spend some time getting to know your fellow fans.

[livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum reports that Josh Charles has once again achived gainful employment, with the Steppenwolf theatre company in Chicago no less. I would be happier if it were, say, a decent film or television role, but at least the dear boy is working and can pay his rent this month. Also, I happen to know that one person on my flist has tickets to see his play, so we will all be waiting with baited breath for her Very Detailed! review.

The whole of LJ seems to be awash with Brokeback Mountain squee at the moment (well, at least the bits I read.) Some lucky people will get to see it this weekend, however please spare a thought for those of us Down Under who must wait until January 26 before we can marvel at the Gay Cowboys in Love. To console myself I snaffled a couple of [livejournal.com profile] texasbek's fabulous Brokeback icons.

GIP!!

Gay cowboys!

Judy won't want to see it, so I'll be waiting for the DVD. But I've read the book, spoilers are fine by me.

weeJosh's Steppenwolf gig pleases me mightily, and amuses me even more as the company gets namechecked by Danny in Kit Mason's 'Ice'. Sad, I know, but that really is the first thing I thought of!

A and I are just dying to see it. I keep sending him links and pictures to tease his interest while we're both supposed to be working. It's the most fun I've had at work in ages, aside from learning how to use Z39.50 the other day.

I hope some nice pictures of weeJosh sans hat start circulating when the play opens. He really needs to get his face out there more.

How much do I love your post title when combined with your journal title?

I love your screen shots, thank you for making my day.

I have been counting the days, and now I am counting the hours until Brokeback opens. Unlike you, I can see it tomorrow (well at midnight tonight if I really wanted to) but I need to go into L.A. to do it. That is an hour drive, and my "date" for the show lives an hour further in the opposite direction. I HATE going into the city and do it only when I have to.

What I don't understand, is that I have been seeing the trailer constantly for the last several months, why isn't it going into wide release?! We should all be seeing it tomorrow!

I guess the studio is worried about the receptions it'll get. They'd rather loose a small amount of money on a limited release and see how it goes, than loose a packet all at once on wide release.

We may think we live in enlightened times, but the truth is there are going to be a lot of groups out there who will say the movie is promoting homosexuality in a positive light and caution people against seeing it for because of it's 'morally corrupt' values. Doesn't matter that it's first and foremost a love story, the fact that it's a love story between two men will pretty much overshadow it all.
