there and there again

You know what's not fun? Not fun is sitting in traffic for half an hour to travel the three blocks from the turn-off from the shops to your own street. I swear to god, at one point I was ready to dump the car in the nearest side street and go back for it after peak hour had cleared. When I did have to go back to the shops to buy eggs for the cake I'm making, it took me less time to walk there and back than it would have to drive. God, I thought Sydney was bad, but Melbourne traffic is just impossible these days!

*sporks*

I know! Traffic was so unbelievably f***ed up tonight. And you know what really made my afternoon?? Sitting in a queue of cars outside Westfield Doncaster, making my way to the Doncaster Road/Williamsons Road intersection, and having cars behind me honking because I'm not moving - guess what, I CAN'T! Grrrr!

There must have been something going on on the Eastern Freeway, because the Grange Road turnoff near my place was completely jammed. That's why it took me so long to get home. Normally it takes me five minutes to drive from the Station Street shops to home. Tonight, half an hour! Then of course I was the annoying driver who had to make a right hand turn, but it wasn't like the other cars were getting very far anyway.

*shrugs*

Grange Road is always pretty evil, there is nothing like being at uni for eight hours then spending 50 minutes sitting in a traffic jam on Grange Road thinking it would be quicker if you got off the bus and walked back into the city, I hate that bridge over the Yarra at Kew just past Heidelberg Road on the Chandler Highway where the traffic goes from three lanes to one, that is always fun in peak hour.

Usually it doesn't bother me because I'm on my bike. It's rare for me to be not riding and I can just zoom past the traffic. It's only when I drive at that it hits home just how hideous the traffic is these days.

You should move up here - we have no traffic. (Unfortunately that means that everyone gets all confused when they have to drive near other cars. I've lost track of how many times I've seen idiots tailgaiting someone while travelling at 110 k an hour.)

Yes, I remember drivers you way being somewhat 'creative' when I was visiting last year. Do they not get taught how to use indicators in those parts or something?

Actually, as I understand it there was a law for a while that, if you were going straight through a roundabout (which we have so many of, sigh) you had to enter the roundabout, indicate right to show you weren't going left, and then indicate left to show you were leaving the roundabout. 0.o So glad they got rid of that one, srsly.

There was something going on with several of the major roads this afternoon. I know of a crashed bike on the ring road, but something was up with the Eastern too, it was closed at Chandler Highway, that was the exit you had to take if you got that far and apparently traffic in the kew area was a nightmare.

I was on the ringwood bypass at the start of the eastern and there was a sign telling of the closure at about 3:30pm.

I think there was a prob near Bell St too

That would explain it because I'm right near the Chandler. Normally you expect it to get a little banked up during peak hour, but tonight it was just beyond ridiculous. Thirty minutes to travel three blocks, WTF???
