yum, biscuits!

Thanks to everyone who offered me good wishes for my mum. I haven't seen her yet, but apparently she's not too bad, relatively speaking. At least this time she had the good sense to call my sister the minute she started feeling unwell instead of wallowing at home for days before she decided that maybe she should go and see her doctor who would then promptly admit her to hospital. Anyway I'm going to the old home town on the weekend so I'll find out more when I arrive and if I need to take a day off next week all the troops are rallying around so there shouldn't be drams in that regard.

Meanwhile I have distracted myself by buying a new mobile phone. It's not anything as schmancy as an iPhone, just a basic Nokia Navigator, but I can finally send and receive picture messages and it also doubles as an MP3 player! I've spent the evening downloading all the music I have on my PC and have set some Thom Yorke/PJ Harvey as my ringtone. There's nothing like a bit of plaintive crooning to grab your attention :~)

[livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum didn't realise that yo-yos could be biscuits (cookies) as well as toys, so I shall leave you with a recipe!

Yo-yo Biscuits

Ingredients

Biscuits:
185g butter, softened
1/3 cup (60g) icing sugar
1 1/2 cups (185g) plain flour, sifted
1/3 cup (60g) custard powder, sifted

Icing:
2 tablespoons butter, softened
4 tablespoons icing sugar, sifted
Few drops vanilla essence
1 large passionfruit, pulped, or around 1/3 cup canned passionfruit pulp

1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees C. Line a biscuit tray with baking paper.

2. Cream butter and icing sugar then stir in sifted flour and custard powder. Scoop out the mixture with a teaspoon and roll in into walnut-sized small balls and place on the biscuit tray. With a fork gently press down on each ball so the prongs leave indentations.

3. Bake for about 10mins. Don't let biscuits brown, as they will be overcooked. Allow to cool.

4. To make the icing: mix all icing ingredients together, adjust for taste or consistency. Sandwich two biscuits together with the icing to serve.

I'm glad your mother isn't in that bad of a way. Here's to a very speedy recovery!

Mmmmmmm. OM NOM NOM.

I've been trying to call mum this morning to see how she is but her phone is constantly engaged. If she's well enough to gab on the phone for hours I can only guess that she's not doing too badly :~)

I think/I hope that your troops at work are organised enough and that your employers value you sufficiently that, should you need time off, it won't be too much of a problem. But, of course, I hope that you don't need to take time off!

Good to know that things are (probably) not as bad as might be feared. *more hugs* anyway.

Mmm. Those sound yummy. Much nicer than a spinny piece of plastic on the end of a bit of string!

My troops are pretty good. They rally around their boss, which is nice to know when I'm acting like a complete flake who can't work out which way is up.

Those sort of yo-yos are way better than the plastic ones, to the nth degree!
