Fox readying US version of 'Torchwood'

What would be the point of that? The original is good enough as it is so how could they hope to top it? And I bet there'd be no Jack and Ianto!

I think there might still be Jack, even if no Ianto.

As someone -- I think [livejournal.com profile] kaneko -- pointed out, it could be Torchwood but not present day Torchwood. Given that Jack's supposedly been working for Torchwood for decades, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to set him up as working for a stateside branch of Torchwood at sometime during the last hundred years. (Personally, I'd love to see him in the 20s. Or the 60s. Or even the 40s.)

As long as it was a new series of Torchwood (you know, new stories, not telling an americanised version of the TW eps we've already seen) I think I'd be interested in watching it.

My worry is that all they're going to do is retell what's already been said, only with more tits and ass and with a moralistic happy ending every time. If that's what they're looking for, why don't they reboot 7th Heaven?

"Torchwood fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board"

Actually, no, that doesn't reassure me at all. I still haven't forgiven them for killing Ianto for 'dramatic impact'. And look what US tv did to Life on Mars :(

Exactly. The original producing team may be on board, but that doesn't mean they have an active role in how the show is made. They could there in name only with a whole different set of people (with a totally different agenda) running things on a day-to-day basis.

It seems like an exceptionally stupid idea, but then, Fox is an exceptionally stupid channel.

It's an absolutely terrible idea. I don't care that RTD and John Barrowman are possibly attached. In the end it will go down the same road as the US version of Life on Mars and we all know what happened to that!
