several things

Thing 1: I have an unexpected week off from work. I was supposed to have August 20-31 off, but due to [reasons] I had to cancel that leave so I told my boos I'd take this week off in compensation. I haven't had a whole week off work in nearly a year. It's been nice.

Thing 2: I am house and cat sitting for my friends Brian and Katherine and in my disorientated, caffeine-deprived stupor this morning I somehow thought that I could heat the electric kettle on the stove top. Fortunately I didn't set the kitchen on fire but it was close and Brian and Katherine now have a shiny new kettle.

Thing 3: I went to see Cabin in the Woods today and I really enjoyed it. I'm not normally a horror movie fan - they mostly bore me to tears - but I really enjoyed this one, especailly the sly Whedonesque humour the most delicious plot twist I've seen in a long time.

Thing 4: Since I've decided that Jeremy Renner is now my new pretend boyfriend, I am, of course, obliged to work my way through his entire filmic oeuvre. I'm not sure I can handle watching SWAT again, especially since I know how it ends for him and, well, weeJosh, but I've recently viewed Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and rather enjoyed it, this morning I watched his episode of Angel and I have The Hurt Locker waiting for me to collect from the student union library. I suspect I'm going to have to track down his more obscure offerings on amazon, but so far my fannish exploration has been rather enjoyable for once and not full of the sort of cringe-worthy duds one watched simply because one's current object of affection was in need of a pay cheque.

Thing 5: The cat is sitting on top of the TV (it's one of those old fashioned box things). It's rather adorable!

I did the same thing with James McAvoy and now with Joseph Gordon-Levitt like you do with Jeremy Renner. It's always great to discover an actor with an extensive filmography.

It's always an interesting exercise exploring the output of a new favourite actor. While I've seen some pretty cool movies I've also watched some serious crap over the years thanks to actor crushes. It's always a bit of a pot luck, but isn't that half the fun?

I can't remember the last time I had a week off to just do nothing. Last few times I had a week off was still filled with stuff to do like study for Learners, preparing uni applications, exams and all sorts of insane stuff.

No wait, I do remember the last time I had a proper holiday: December 2010.

The time I've had of recently is sick leave and it's really not the same thing as an actual week of doing nothing. I should do it more often.

Ooh, I'm glad you're enjoying your week!

Thank you! It's been great to be able to just phaff around aimlessly. I really needed it!

Yay for holidays! Sounds like you're having fun!

Holidays are good, especially when you haven't had one for a while. I'm finding that I really don't want to go back to work on Monday :(

I don't think there's any need to re-watch SWAT, though I sometimes do when it comes on telly - just to see if weeJosh doesn't go to the bad this time. (So far he always has.)

I was thinking I could watch it up until the bit where it all goes south for Josh. Jeremy goes to the bad early on so there's no avoiding it, but I still get all frowny about wee Josh even though I know how it all ends.
