They Say What They Say

Okay, everyone, the date for the Sports Night Chat has been set. Clear you diary for August 19 because that is when the big day will happen!

The Schedule
Because we're all living in different time zones, I'm following sageness's lead from the due South Chat and dividing the world into thirds. Therefore our starting time will be 3pm Melbourne, 6am London, and 12am Chicago time. You can work out what time that will be where you live here, but roughly:

3pm Melbourne = 6am London; 12am Chicago

The chatroom will stay open the whole weekend, or until the last person logs off, so don't worry about missing out on anything, because we'll be around for hours!

What We'll Be watching
After looking over the results of the poll, I have come to the conclusion that we should just watch the entire series and be done with it. There are only 44 or so episodes and since they're all around 20-25 minutes in length, I'd say it'll work out nicely. So, we'll start with the pilot and work our way through both seasons until we reach the end. And once we've got to the end, if we feel like it we can start over again or just watch random episodes, depending on how we feel at the time. How does that sound?

The way this works is:
1. Everyone starts their DVDs/AVIs!
2. PAUSE at timestamp 00:00 (because different copies have different lead-time, and we all want to start together).
3. One person in the chat does the countdown: THREE, TWO, ONE, PLAY!
4. Everyone presses PLAY at the same time and watches together and squee all over the chatroom!

The Chatroom
Once again following the lead of the due South Chat, which really should be held up as a benchmark for online chat and viewing sessions, the chat will take place in an AIM chatroom managed through Trillian. Trillian is a program that manages AIM, Y!M, ICQ, MSN, etc. You can download it for free and you do not need AOL Instant Messenger itself if you have Trillian. You will need an AIM username, but you can set that up when you get Trillian. If you have any problems with this, leave a comment here or email me at laylee at livejournal dot com.

Volunteers Needed!
Now, obviously I won't be able to stay awake throughout the entire chat, so I'm looking for a couple of willing victims volunteers to help moderate the chat, preferable one from each time zone so we don't all pass out from sleep depravation. A Word of Warning and Some Rules
Some of the participants in this chat session will be slashers, which means they will be speculating on and/or discussing the homoerotic vibes between Dan and Casey. Others will be Casey/Dana or Jeremy/Natalie shippers, while others will not understand why Isaac and Kim never got it together. That's fine because we all have our individual likes and dislikes.

However, as organiser and moderator, what I want to see is everyone respecting each other's opinion. If you find yourself not agreeing with something someone has said, feel free to respectively disagree but do not start a flame war or make disparaging or hurtful remarks simply because you don't think along similar terms. We're all adults who are out for some fun with a favourite fandom. If you can't say something nice or respectful, please say nothing at all. Those are the rules and I expect you to abide by them.

I will post instructions for getting into the chatroom a few days before the event, and if you've got any questions, just ask and I'll attempt to give you a coherent response *g*
