It's a public holiday in Melbourne today, one of the few that my work actually gives us, and so I celebrated by getting up early and making rhubarb and ginger jam. Bread and jam is never better than when the jam is warm out of the pot it was made in. I've also done the dishes, made coffee, watched an episode of of Magnum PI (and oh my, didn't the guys wear short shorts back in 1980!) and phaffed around on teh intertubes for a while. It's been a pretty successful day off so far and I haven't even gotten dressed yet!

My next trick will be a trip to the gymnasium and a wander around Brunswick St for a while. After that I'll come home and bottle the jam and then have a go at making crumpets. Yes, crumpets! I found a recipe last night and really want to give it a go. Plus, now that I have all this jam I need something to eat it with. And my sourdough won't be ready until Thursday because it takes five days for the starter to ferment.

I've also been spending a large amount of time at the Spence St DFO the last couple of days, shopping for FIVE HOURS with A & H on Saturday and returning a dress that looked way better in the shop than it did when I got it home on Sunday. I didn't buy much either day, but on Saturday I found a cute hippy-esque tunic that can double as a beach dress in the summer as well as the one I returned, and when I went back yesterday I found a pair of boots to replace my favourites that died this time last year and a new pair of sneakers for gym. The boots look a little like this:

There was a couple of other pairs of shoes in the same shop that I really loved. It would be bad of me to go back and buy them, right?

Yeah.

Last night they screened the recent Ballet Shoes telemovie on ABC. I must now re-read the book to remind myself when I loved it so as a child, because god knows those whiny brats on my TV screen in no way resembled the characters I desperately wanted to be when I was ten.

Ah Castle, gotta love him...

Pretty much all I've eaten today is bread and jam. Not very healthy, maybe, but damn tasty. I have been to gym and ran for a while on the treadmill, as well as doing twenty minutes on the cross trainer and an extra set in my weights program. However, a diet of nothing but bread and jam is not a good thing, unless one is five and the only thing one will eat for lunch is jam sandwiches. So I threw in a carrot and a glass of water for good measure and tomorrow I'll eat some actual vegetables and protein. Maybe even some fruit that hasn't been stewed in a kilo of sugar.

There are Winchesters on my TV screen. This is a very good thing. Only Dean can manage to look so adorable when talking about strippers. And how is it that Sam is taller and broader than last week? Did Jared eat extra cheese between episodes or something?

Gah, this week is shaping up to be cold and horrible. 12C here but only 7C in the old home town! Maybe I should rethink the whole, lets see if I can survive winter without an electric blanket on my bed. I should at least stock up on flannel jammies and bed socks. Maybe a hot water bottle?
