Happy belated birthday, [livejournal.com profile] out_there! Hope it was a good one, honey :~)

Meh, I feel like crap and for once it's not self-inflicted. Woke up with a vaguly sore throat and it's been steadily getting worse all day. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm going to work tomorrow and have already called (emailed) in sick. I even had the good sense to make a doctor's appointment this afternoon so the certificate is all squared away. Normally I wouldn't need a certificate for one day, but the NTE union, in it's wisdom, is calling a stop work tomorrow to protest recent job cuts and anyone, union member or not, who does not have prearranged leave or a sick note will get docked four hours pay. I'm already living on the edge this fortnight, I do not need to lose half a day's pay for something I'm not even participating in.

Oh my god, last night I was watching this episode of Las Vegas, the last season with Tom Selleck, had a huge fit of the giggles when I saw that Larry Manetti and Roger E. Mosley were making guest appearances as Roger, a helicopter mogul, and Larry, a millionaire nightclub entrepreneur. Apparently the British guy couldn't make it. I felt like I'd landed in some weird Magnum PI parallel universe *snerk*

*Le sigh* it's my first Monday evening in aaaages without new Supernatural to look forward to. How am I going to cope without my Sam 'n' Dean fix until September? Oh well, at least I have Big Bang Theory to keep me occupied. Sheldon's nerdy lack of social skills never fails to amuse :~)

I've also become slightly obsessed with Queens of the Stone Age, which is weird because I've never taken much notice of them at all before now. However I found myself fixed on the video for No One Knows on Sunday and have Youtubed them on the sly at work all day. I think Josh Homme being a fellow rednut is what hooked me in - that and Dave Grohl drumming on Songs For the deaf cos I love dave Grohl - but now I just really like their music. Must buy CDs. Maybe I can do that tomorrow after I've been to the doctor.
Mood:: 'sick' sick

It's a public holiday in Melbourne today, one of the few that my work actually gives us, and so I celebrated by getting up early and making rhubarb and ginger jam. Bread and jam is never better than when the jam is warm out of the pot it was made in. I've also done the dishes, made coffee, watched an episode of of Magnum PI (and oh my, didn't the guys wear short shorts back in 1980!) and phaffed around on teh intertubes for a while. It's been a pretty successful day off so far and I haven't even gotten dressed yet!

My next trick will be a trip to the gymnasium and a wander around Brunswick St for a while. After that I'll come home and bottle the jam and then have a go at making crumpets. Yes, crumpets! I found a recipe last night and really want to give it a go. Plus, now that I have all this jam I need something to eat it with. And my sourdough won't be ready until Thursday because it takes five days for the starter to ferment.

I've also been spending a large amount of time at the Spence St DFO the last couple of days, shopping for FIVE HOURS with A & H on Saturday and returning a dress that looked way better in the shop than it did when I got it home on Sunday. I didn't buy much either day, but on Saturday I found a cute hippy-esque tunic that can double as a beach dress in the summer as well as the one I returned, and when I went back yesterday I found a pair of boots to replace my favourites that died this time last year and a new pair of sneakers for gym. The boots look a little like this:

There was a couple of other pairs of shoes in the same shop that I really loved. It would be bad of me to go back and buy them, right?

Yeah.

Last night they screened the recent Ballet Shoes telemovie on ABC. I must now re-read the book to remind myself when I loved it so as a child, because god knows those whiny brats on my TV screen in no way resembled the characters I desperately wanted to be when I was ten.

Ah Castle, gotta love him...
