Because you can never have enough Sports Night in your life, here is a random poll, the idea for which I blatantly borrowed from someone else. It poses the question, of all the unseen characters who are regularly mentioned in SN, who would you like to meet most?

Sam flashbacks would be nice. I even have the perfect actor to play him! (I don't have time to check IMBD at the mo, but he was in a TVM version of A Wrinkle in Time and also, I believe, in Everwood, which is amusing in itself as it's been crossed with SN more than once.)
(Actually, it would have been quicker to check IMBD than to type all that ...)

I know who you mean, and yes, he would be good as Sam (except for the fact that he's lacking the distinct Rydell nose.)

Oh, absolutely. And having seen him play a petulant, moody teenager on Everwood I just know he would be a perfect Sam.

Any actress playing Lisa would immediately go on my 'must hate forever' list and I really don't want to add to that list if I don't have to.

I have that problem with Melina Kanakaredes. I really liked her when I first saw her in Providence, but then I watched as Victoria in due South and ever since then the only thing I can think of when I see her in CSI is how mean she was to Fraser.

I was torn between Louise and Sam. They've both had major effects on two of my favorite characters in the world, and that's why I want to meet them. (For the record, I'd also love to see Peter, Paul, and Esther - which totally sounds like a bad cover band, but that was an accident. But I want to see Esther because she's bound to be a great person, and I want to have an episode written around Peter and Paul, all teeth and plastic hair. It'd be great. It's just, for this I was trying to pick the person I'd most like to get a glimpse of, not the person or people I want to be minor recurring characters.)
But I realized - Jeremy gives us a sort of sneak preview of Louise; he obviously both likes and loves her, and that tells us a lot about her. But we know nothing about Sam, because Dan is the most unreliable narrator ever in that area. All we know is how Dan sees Sam now, through the lens of years and death and guilt, and that's just - Sam could have been anyone. And I would like to know how close he is to how Dan sees him, or how close he was - it'd say an awful lot about Dan.
(My guess, by the way: that Sam had faults that Dan acknowledges but never says. Probably a lot of them. But that he was, basically, the kid that Dan remembers, because Dan's a sharp but kind observer. Still, it could go the other way. Maybe he hardly saw Sam at all. Everything he says about him could have come from the eulogies he heard at the funeral, and after all, how much time do people spend studying their younger siblings? Maybe Dan's this keen and kind observer because he never saw Sam. And, see, that's the kind of thing I'd love to know for sure.)

That would be, actually. And now I want to read fic about Peter and Paul, about what it's like to work with Sally and be second fiddles to the crazy trio of Dana, Dan and Casey.

I see them as being either quite young and working on their first national TV show, or else they're somewhat older than Dan and Casey and have never quite made it to prime time; always the bridesmaid and never the bride, as it where. And I'm sure Peter thinks Sally is an idiot and only puts up with her because he knows that she'll eventually screw her way into a new job, while Paul is constantly trying to get into her pants.

Absolutely. She'd be the only person in the world who could tell Isaac that he's being an old fool and not only get away with it, but have him take note of what she's saying.
But we know nothing about Sam, because Dan is the most unreliable narrator ever in that area. All we know is how Dan sees Sam now, through the lens of years and death and guilt, and that's just - Sam could have been anyone.
Like a lot of people who have lost someone close to them, Dan possibly has this idealised view of Sam and his life, when in actual fact he could have been one of the most obnoxious, annoying teenagers on the planet, even more so with him being so intelligent. Sure he died the day he got his licence, but maybe it wasn't the first time Sam had gone driving on drink and drugs. Maybe it was the culmination of him doing everything and anything he could to rebel, and in his grief all Dan chooses to focus on is how Sam wouldn't have done any of it if he hadn't been such a poor role model.
