there really is such a thing as tmi

In an effort to read something other than fic, I borrowed up a couple of biographies from the general collection at work last week. One is about Vivienne Westwood, and the other is about Edith Head, a costume designer who worked in Hollywood for nearly sixty years. She had the pivilege(?) of dressing many of the top female stars of the 30's, 40's and 50's, including people like Ginger Rogers, Mae West, Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwick, etc.

I now know more about Bette Davis's breasts than I ever truly wanted to know. Apparently the women disliked the idea of bras in general and underwire bras in particular, with gravity taking a very unkind toll on her in the end. I will never be able to look at the brown evening dress she wears in All About Eve in quite the same way. And I am also determined to never let my babies go unsupported lest they develop Bette Davis syndrome!

Mine are still okay. Depends on the size, I suppose, and what you do with them, and if you have baybeez.

I inherited my mother's boobs which means I became best friends with the lingerie department at Myers when I was about 12. And I've seen what gravity and childbirth have done to her's, so the chest press at the gym is now my second best friend.

*snorts* You called your breasts your babies! For some reason I found that stupidly funny. I may be on a holiday high.

Gravity will get most people in the end, supported or not. I thoroughly expect to be one of those old ladies who have to roll their boobs up to stuff them in their bras. Nice image, huh?

I'm pretty sure gravity will get me in the end, but not before I put up a hell of a fight *g*

Unfortunately, its not just providing good support and gravity that play a part. The birth of my first child caused a devastating change in my body and I only gained 28 pounds with her. I never did that "burn my bra" thing but still payed the price.

And underwire bras are a hideous torture device that must have been developed back in the Spanish Inquisition era! UGH
