I've come to the startling conclusion that I'm not that interested in reading fanfic at the moment. I try but lose interested after a couple of paragraphs and return to whatever book I'm reading at the moment.

I think it's because I recently realised that for ages and ages all I was reading was fanfic. Now my brain has decided that This Is Not On and it wants more than just cute boys being cute together. I don't mind it, especially when my To Read pile has been threatening to drown me for about two years, I just find it odd that all of a sudden I've gone from all fanfic all of the time, to 'Damn, where's my book?' in almost the blink of an eye. It could also explain why I've been so ambivalent about LJ lately. When I couldn't get enough fic it was my absolute lifeline, but these days I'm more likely to be perusing the 813's at work than trawling around the intertubes for new fic.

Huh.

The creature on tonight's episode of Doctor Who? Um, yeah, wouldn't have been out of place in a Tom Baker episode, that's all I've got to say. But apart from that, great ep with it's sliding doors premise and all that and the ending was just guh! Can't wait until next week, OMG!

Yes, I am a bit behind in my viewing. But that's what you get for not upgrading your interwebs connection and relying on free-to-air TV to provide you with your fannish fix until the DVDs come out :~\

I just finished reading The Prestige and so of course I had to rush out and buy the movie to compare the two. Both were equally enthralling, although I think I prefer the book over the movie. There's more to think about with the book, and the ending is much more ambiguous, which is something I always enjoy, as opposed to the more obvious 'and then they all ****' ending of the movie.

But now I'm wandering aimlessly around Wikipedia, and really I should go to bed. I've got work tomorrow and all that, and I did say no to going out tonight just so I could get some sleep.

Mmmm, sleep...

Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone! I wore green today, did you?

I had a burst of nostalgia on the weekend when I found my old copy of Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield in a bookcase at my mum's house, and oops, I'd forgotten that I stole it from the library at my old school. I am such a bad librarian!

I loved that book when I was young(er). Like many girls I had dreams of becoming a prima ballerina while I was growing up and I did take dance classes for a few years before I realised that my talents lay elsewhere. I still love the ballet, though, and go whenever I can. And reading this book the other day brought back a lot of fond memories of leaping about the house in my leotard and ballet slippers to my parents classical records.

*iz a giant dork*

Meanwhile it's still hotter than hades around here, but the bureau of meteorology assure us that the cool change is on its way and the rest of the week will be in the mid to high twenties, as opposed to the current mid to high thirties. I'll believe it when I have to put on a cardi against the evening chill.

One week until I jet off to Perth and I feel like I cannot possibly go until I clean my entire flat from top to bottom. I've been scurrying around since I got home from work, putting things away, changing the sheets and folding laundry. I'm about to do the dishes, and after that I'll sweep mop the kitchen floor and hang my sheets on the line to dry.

Why is it that I only get this urge to spring clean when it's hotter than hell?

I'm here in the old home town, shivering because winter has descended upon us even though it's December. Unfortunately the one jumper I brought with me was besmirched by my overenthusiastic, icing covered niece this afternoon and until I get to wash it I have no idea what I'm going to wear if the weather continues to be cool. Do you think it'd be okay if I turned up to Christmas in my pyjamas?

It's my sister's birthday today so I've eaten large amounts of cake, the first one being a stealth birthday cake F and I made for her (and hence the icing covered niece) and the second being the Waldorf Astoria Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting that my mother is a master at. I love that cake, but it's a good thing I haven't gotten the recipe of her (yet) because I'd be drowning in carrot cake if I did.

I'd completely forgotten that I'd signed at Good Reads a few months ago until [livejournal.com profile] the_antichris sent me a friends request. Since then I've spent the better part of the afternoon adding every book that came to mind to my library. I've also have just over a thousand words of my SN fic written and I've just realised that I have until January 1st to get it done which makes me feel much better.

I've just noticed a big crack in my mum's lounge room ceiling. I hope she's not developing a leak in the roof, cos that would really suck.

I had the kookiest thought at gym tonight. Not an unusual occurrence and usually followed by me tripping over a piece of cardio equipment in front of a cute boy because my mind is elsewhere, however...

The thought, yes.

One of my favourite books is Changing Pitches by Steve Kluger, the tale of Scotty McKay, an aging baseball star who rediscovers his form, helps his underdog team win the pennant against all the odds, and falls inexplicably in love with hotshot young catcher, Jason Cornell. It doesn't matter if you're not into baseball (although it helps) because the book is funny and sweet and full of wry humour. I highly recommend it, in case you didn't guess.

Anyway, the kookie thought. Yes.

I've always thought that it'd make a great movie and that it would translate very well to film if all the outdated pop culture references were removed. It'd have to be an independent production because I doubt the main premise of the book - Scotty falling for Jason hook, line and curve ball - would make it through a major studio makeover intact and what you'd probably get is some insipid buddy flick along the lines of Major League. The talent behind Little Miss Sunshine instantly springs to mind because they'd have the balls to leave the story just the way it is.

Of course then there's the question of who would play Scotty and Jason, and that's where my kookie thought comes into it.

Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles!

No, really, it makes perfect sense.

Jared has to be Scotty because Scotty is this tall, laid back guy who is obsessed with health food, loves his girlfriend very much and thinks Star Wars is one of the greatest movies ever made. Sure Jared is about ten years younger than Scott, but they can do wonderful things with make up these days, and if Nicole Kidman can learn to write with her right hand for The Hours, I'm sure Jared can work out how to pitch a baseball left-handed.

Jensen, on the other hand, was born to play Jason, a ridiculously good-looking guy with perfect teeth who is a natural-born athlete and who poses for underwear ads in his spare time, and Jen would only have to dye his hair blond(er) and wear contacts to make his eyes blue. And the boys have already got that insane on screen/off screen chemistry thing happening, so can't you just see them being all sexy and wonderful in baseball uniforms while they make eyes at each other from across the field? Plus there's that whole twist at the end which makes for a perfect amount of aww, shucks with a hint of angst.

I'm not sure who would play Buddy, but the actress who played Madison in Heart would be great as Joanie and we already know that she and Jared look great together.

I mean, think about it: Baseball! Uniforms! Boys in love! Angst! Schmmop! What more could you ask for???
