huh

I've come to the startling conclusion that I'm not that interested in reading fanfic at the moment. I try but lose interested after a couple of paragraphs and return to whatever book I'm reading at the moment.

I think it's because I recently realised that for ages and ages all I was reading was fanfic. Now my brain has decided that This Is Not On and it wants more than just cute boys being cute together. I don't mind it, especially when my To Read pile has been threatening to drown me for about two years, I just find it odd that all of a sudden I've gone from all fanfic all of the time, to 'Damn, where's my book?' in almost the blink of an eye. It could also explain why I've been so ambivalent about LJ lately. When I couldn't get enough fic it was my absolute lifeline, but these days I'm more likely to be perusing the 813's at work than trawling around the intertubes for new fic.

Huh.

i stopped reading SPN fic because i was behind on the episodes and didn't want to spoil myself. i started reading actual books again! (for fun, i mean, rather than for uni. which isn't exactly not-fun, but it's certainly a lot more brain-work.)

I suspect that once SPN starts screening on Aussie TV again my interest will pick-up but at the moment I'm quite enjoying holding a book instead of balancing a laptop on my knees.

Huh. I read books when I ran out of fanfic to read. Also why I tend to like plot driven long fics that are more than cute boys being cute together. I just bought Stephen Fry's "Making History" over the weekend, so that's one more book to the pile of "to be read"

I'm finding there's a derth of really good, plotty fics in my current fandoms at the moment and I'm not in the mood to re-read old favourites. But at least my to read pile is finally shrinking!

Yeah, I kinda ran out of those in the TW fandom, which is why I'm going back to SGA, where they have long ass AUs that are totally brilliant. :D

I don't read all that much fan fiction anyway. But when I read Proper Novels I do sometimes miss cute boys making out and characters I already love. Also, cannot abandon the internet as it's where everyone I know lives.

I was reading a lot of fic across at least four fandoms for ages, but all of a sudden not even a drabble from a favourite author will make me click on an LJ cut. Maybe I've ODed and need to detox for a while?

That's exactly how I feel at the moment. I used to read fanfics in tons, but now, I crawl in my bed in the evening and snuggle with a good book. Maybe it's because I started reading tie-in novels and it's basically like reading a fanfic in a book form.

But then, I have these waves: obsessed with TV shows - obsessed with fanfics - obsessed with books. And it goes in circles.

Yeah, I think I'm going through an obsessed with books phase at the moment. Not such a bad thing, really ;~)

I go through periods like that too. There are times when something will set me off and I have to read all the fic I can find out there featuring a certain pairing. Lately it's been Die Hard 4. Ugh, can't get enough.

But then, a favorite author will come out with his/her new book and I'll gobble that up as well has going back to re-read favorites. So in the end, I think it all evens out and you just have to go with the flow, so to speak.

My flow seems to be leading me toward books at the moment, but I'm sure the tide will turn when a new fandom comes along and grabs me by the throat!

I'm reading some 19th century novels for a friend's book club at the moment and initally found it hard, which is embarrassing. I'm too used to bite-sized, shiny stories on the internet. However, now that I've got into it a bit, I really like sitting outside on a lounge chair with a book!

Reading a whole book is hard when all you've looked at for the last few months is fic. But when i was in Queensland last year I devoured two books in three days so it didn't take me very long to get back into it at all!
