laylee: (Very Busy)
Add MemoryShare This Entry
  1. Last night I had the pleasure of hanging out with the delightful [profile] jamethiel_bane, her equally lovely partner and, of course, the kitties. We watched some Sports Night and some Buffy, with a side trip into The Sentinal, ate pizza and chocolate and drank a very nice Shiraz. We talked about fic and fanishness, and had only a slight drama when [info]jamethiel_bane's iTunes had a bit of a conniption fit. All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and one I hope to repeat soon before they go off on their big adventure to Japan.
  2. I never realised just how much time I used to spend keeping myself amused with LJ at work until I got a job that keeps me very busy 90% of the time. These days I can barely keep up with my flist and I may even have to do a little cutting back just so I can cope. But I really don't want to because I love you all and would hate to lose any of you! *clings to flist*
  3. Relating to point 2, I have so many fics saved in my 'To Read' file it's about to burst. There's Sports Night from a couple of weeks ago, a pile of entries from [profile] ds_match, a whole heap of Supernatural and a couple of random things that I can't even remember why I wanted to read them in the first place. If you've written something recently and I haven't commented on it, I will get to it but it may take me a little while to do so.
  4. On Thursday I had to sit on an interview panel for a position we're filling at work. It was practically my first time on the other side of the job interview experience and I can tell you that it's just as nerve-wracking for the interviewers and it is for the interviewees. *wibbles* Of course it doesn't help that the position was being filled internally and that I have to interact with most of the unsuccessful candidates on a daily basis. But as much as we wanted to give everyone a job, we chose who we thought was the best person for position and I can only hope that they understand that it wasn't personal.
  5. I had my eyes tested the other day, and since I am now of a certain age, it apparently includes a complimentary glaucoma test :~\  Anyhoo, it turns out I need to start wearing glasses while working on the computer, so I picked out a nice pair of tortoiseshell frames that I hope don't make me look like too much of a librarian and I pick them up next week.
  6. Speaking of librarians, the ABC has started screening a new series called The Librarians. A couple of my library school friends came over to watch the first episode with me, and although it was amusing in places I didn't find it particularly funny. It's been written in the  same vein as The Office and features a cast of 'quirky' characters, however I certainly open no one thinks that all librarians are as priggish as Frances, or that anyone dressed in a hot pink pleather mini dress can walk into a job as a librarian without at least Bachelor's degree in library and information management under their glittery gold belt.
  7. I took my overlocker up to the the sewing machine doctor in Greensborough today. He thinks it's just the power cord acting up, but he's going to give it a service because it's probably due for one anyway. Thing is, this is my last weekend at home for at least the next three weeks and the shop closes before I finish work so I'm not sure when I'll be able to retrieve it, unless I put off going up to the old home town until Saturday morning and fetch it before taking off. *ponders*
  8. I'm going out tonight and have no idea what to wear. Do I wear my birthday dress with the plunging neckline and red strappy heels? My silver silk Audrey dress with the cute bow and my black heels? Or go for a rock chick look with jeans, a vintage black and silver tee and my high-heeled black boots?
  9. Following on from #8, I'm hoping it's not too big a night because I really need to go and put three pairs of work pants on lay-by tomorrow. I mentioned a while ago that my work clothes are starting to look rather down at heel, but some of them are now positively embarassing! If I don't do something about it soon I'll be wearing my pyjamas to work and that just won't do
  10. I've just done three loads of laundry, including my sheets and towels, and I'm pooped.
  11. Is it just me or does Jensen always look a little tired around the eyes?
ETA: I've just heard that we're going to the Sofitel for drinks so I should probably wear something better than a t-shirt. [personal profile] celli wisely pointed out that I should consider the potential of how much food and/or beverage could be spilled on me before I go with the silk dress, however I do have this top with a plunging neckline that I haven't worn in ages that may be the perfect compromise.

ETA2: I just put all my washing on the line and now it's raining. *headdesk*

Are you going somewhere with the potential of people spilling drinks and/or Italian food on you? If so, I vote rock chick look; if not, silver silk.

And Jensen does often look rode hard and put away wet. Poor baby.

I'm going out for drinks and then we're going on to a club to see a friend DJ, so the potential for spilled drinks is highly likely. The t-shirt and jeans would would probably be more robust in those circumstances.

Poor Jensen. I've read in several interviews that he's not at all a morning person so the early starts that TV people have to endure must be hell for him.

*pets poor tired Jensen*

I don't know whether to be more jealous of [livejournal.com profile] jamethiel_bane or you. I shall settle for Yay, fangirls! with a side order of 'it's not faaaaaaaaaaaaair'.

See, where you fail, laylee, is in having a social life. If you didn't, first you wouldn't have to make hard decisions about clothes and second you would have more time to read fic/do lj things. I can't access lj at work but I have no life so I can catch up. *wins?* You're going to enjoy the Match stories when you get to them. They are so very good.

I love the idea of you with glasses. You have to put your hair up and then remove glasses and shake your hair down at every available opportunity = "Why, Miss Jones, you are beautiful." Shame we can't persuade the CKRalike into the library.

You had your own fantabulous fangirl experience in New York, missy, so don't go getting jealous of mine.

Social lives can be overrated, especailly when one choses to wear new shoes that have not been properly broken in. However I refuse to abandon lj or fic, and my social life will have to adapt.

I think I'd probably fall over ded if CKRalike came into my library. And of course he'd chose the day when I'm feeling frumpy and my hair looks like a birds nest!

I like the idea of being grown-up enough to have a proper job and an active social life and thus not need fandom. But to date this hasn't worked for me, and I don't see it starting now. You should make the most of it, though.

I don't see why I can't have the proper job, the social life AND fandom. One needs to be well-rounded, doesn't one?

The Mean Girls have rather spoiled fandom for me - and SN fandom seems to be on the wane again - so I do rather wish that I could do without it. Or at least be less pathetically dependent on it.

Oh, and re #4, if you can give me any pointers as to how to answer Difficult Interview Questions, that would be most helpful. Last time I answered realistically and, clearly, that was Not A Good Idea.

random: i saw you mentioned the Sofitel and i had a weird deja vu moment, then realized why - even though i live on the other side of the world, i attended events at the Sofitel during Melbourne Fashion Week a couple years back. it was quite lovely :) plus i had a killer shopping trip in St Kilda \o/.. and got to go to some reception thing at the Governors Palace [if thats what its called?] where i proceeded to drink too much champagne and ended up sinking my stiletto heels into the front lawn >< ha! i love Melbourne :)

It's a lovely hotel, and the drinks were very nice. I think lychee martinis are my new favourite cocktail and the view from the ladies loo is spectacular!
