Oh my god.

I took my brother out for dinner tonight because he's moving to Warnambool this week. We were going to go to this Vietnamese place he likes, but they were closed so we ended up going to the Chinese restaurant up the road instead. The food was fantastic! In fact, it was so fantastic that we pretty much ate everything in sight and now I have the biggest tummy ache...

*reaches for the rennies*

It's raining and it's pouring and I was going to ride my bike to work tomorrow for the first time in nearly three weeks but I don't think the weather will allow. And I locked myself out of the house today and had to break into the library (well, sneak in after hours with my swipe card) to retrieve the set of keys I keep in my office. However I now have a total of six pairs of presentable work pants thanks to a lucky find at the Spencer Street DFO today and won't need to worry about buying any more for at least the next twelve months. Plus, as I was wandering around the city this afternoon, I noticed that some of the new spring fashions are starting to appear and pretty girly dresses with full swishy skirts seem to be the thing for summer, and I look fantastic in pretty girly dresses with full swishy skirts \o/

How is it that separately I find Milo Ventimigilia and Adrian Pasdar as boring as anything, but put them together in a couple of 'If we stand any closer we'd be wearing each other's pants' publicity shots and I'm like Guh!?

Okay, I think I'm going to go and stare at all the Callum picspam [livejournal.com profile] scriggle has posted over the last few days and then go to bed. Sounds like a plan, eh?

I was going to spend the afternoon making chicken soup and cleaning my flat. The soup is made, but I feel so wiped-out after scrubbing the shower recess that the rest of it will have to wait until my energy levels return to normal.

Sucks to be sick.

But I'm venturing out on a social engagement tonight, the first in over a week. Just dinner at the pub with A&O, but it'll be nice to get out again and not spend the evening wallowing on the couch while I work my way through another big bang story. I was also supposed to go to Sassafras tomorrow with my friend A, but I'm really not up to that just yet and I don't think a trip into the chilly damp of the Dandenong ranges would do me much good at the moment. She's going to buy me some tea, but. Earl Grey and Prince of Wales. I love a good cup of PoW with a scone. Or a banananana pikelet, which is my next cooking project. I found a heart-shaped pancake mold in an opp shop the other day and apparently my life will not be complete until I have heart-shaped banananana pikelets for afternoon tea.

Okay, could someone please stop me from spending money on clothes. I picked up yet another lay-by today (although yay, new bike helmet!) and on my way out of the shopping centre I stopped by the place where I buy my cheap tank tops and oops, I may have purchased a sweater dress that's shorter than anything I've worn in a long while. But I seem to have suddenly decided that my legs aren't all that bad (even if my thighs are quite muscular from all the cycling) and that the world can stand to see my knees on occasion. I just have to remember to never bend over while I'm wearing. The world can cope with my legs, but it doesn't have to cope with my undies as well!

My doctor gave me a certificate for yesterday and today so took advantage of it, dammit. I still feel like crap and my ability to concentrate is severely limited at the moment so I wouldn't do much good at work anyway. I have been answering emails and I did the roster when I got up, but aside from that I've not thought about work at all.

What I did do was go into the city for a bit of a shop and a wander around. There I found a pair of work pants at Brown Sugar and a new sports bra at Myers. I didn't buy shoes because it's the end of season and they're all pretty boring at the moment, so I'll leave that particular pleasure until the new season's stuff starts to arrive. I had a good look around the shops in the GPO and saw the most adorable silver sandals at Shag, but I've got some silver shoes already so I left them where they were. I might go back for them next pay day. But then again, I might not.

After that I jumped on a tram and headed out to Westgarth where I splurged on a smock dress, something I never thought I would actually buy, because, you know, not looking so attractive on anyone under 5'10" and weighing more than fifty-five kilos. But I saw this one a couple of weeks ago and just knew it would look great with thick black tights and some boots. As it happened I was wearing black tights and boots today so it was a perfect time to try it on. And not only did it fit, it actually looked great so I bought it!

When I got home I made pasta sauce to put on my spirals and did the dishes. Yeah, I lead such a thrilling life. But now I have enough pasta sauce in the freezer to last me nearly two months and for the first time in about a week I'm feeling vaguely normal. So now I'm going to go back to reading about bull rider!Jensen and maybe tomorrow I'll be human again!

So, I didn't buy shoes but I did get the cutest little jacket from the grandma shop in Northcote Plaza. Mostly the shop is a minefield of polar fleece, appliqué windcheaters, pants with stretchy waists and pastels. Nothing much over $60.00 and rack upon rack of discount t-shirts and polyester peasant tops suitable for a mature decolletage. But they do have a corner devoted to the 'younger set' and occasionally you can find a bargain that really works. Last year I found this fab black and white skirt that has become a summer staple, while I've only just tossed the black pants I bought there for $25.00 four years ago. And today they had this sweet little black and grey tweed jacket that has these cute puffed sleeves and quite an unusual collar. It's only poly/nylon and so of the minute I won't be able to wear it much past this season, if it lasts that long. But it looks great with jeans and a black turtleneck and is just perfect for those not so cold days when you need something to throw on over a jumper, not anything as heavy as an overcoat.

Score!

Meanwhile, when I popped into the salvos after the shoe shop I had a close encounter with a very odd chap who just loved the boots I was wearing. He is one of life's special people, but I also think he had a slight fetish because he kept touching them and then asking me to high-five him. Then he asked me if I had a boyfriend so I said yes, I did, cos I wasn't sure what would happen if I said no. After that he wandered off and I went back to browsing, but I heard him telling another girl in the books department the same thing and when he approached me again over in the coats that's where I had to draw the line. Sheesh!

I was supposed to go and see El Orfanto (The Orphanage) with A&O tonight, but I was pretty pooped by the time I got home and was considering cancelling, so I wasn't too upset when I found out that they'd changed their plans and had gone to the 5.15pm session instead.

This gave me the opportunity to watch the penultimate episode of Supernatural and OMG, creepy! I am never going to be able to look at a melon baller in quite the same way again. But it was so sad to see Sam and Dean so at odds with each other, especially with so little time left, and the fact that Sam felt he had to go after Doc to try and discover his secret just proves how disparate he's become. I did feel a tiny bit sorry for Bela in the end, although at the same time I'm not sad to see her gone. I do hope that with the recent news, next season can get back to basics and move past the shortcomings of season three. I would love to see more of Rufus, cos firstly, Steven Williams! and secondly, he's a very cool character who really adds to the show, but as long as they keep on with the Bobby love anything they do is fine by me.

Mmmm, leftover moussaka is made of win, as is the bread I bought at the artisan bakery in Alexandra parade. But now I'm full like a full full full thing and feel like a beached whale.

OMG, Supernatural is back on TV this Sunday and I am so very very excited, except for how I'm not looking forward to all the angst. But still, very very excited!!

*bounces with glee*

It's the Queen's Birthday long weekend this Monday, so of course I did the sensible thing and took today off as well. I had a leisurely breakfast, did a spot of sewing and then spent most of the afternoon trawling around opp shops in Balwyn and Surrey Hills. On the way home I dropped into Darn Cheap Fabrics in Heidelberg where I spent an outrageous amount of money on two 'statement' buttons for a dress I'm making. I also did a spot of shopping at the expensive yet fabulous fabric shop near Ivanhoe Grammar, and now I have a wonderful wool jersey top with grosgrain ribbon bow detail to wear to the CD launch I'm going to tomorrow night.

I have decided that wool jersey is my new favourite stretch fabric to sew with. Making this top was an absolute dream and I had none of the problems I normally have with stretch fabrics. Well, I did have pone problem in that I cut it a little too big, but I took it in at the sides and viola! Problem solved \o/

Is it possible to have too much moussaka? I think it is possible to have too much moussaka considering how full I'm feeling at the moment. But I found this great recipe that includes roasted red capsicum and zucchinis as well as eggplant and it's sooooo very yummy! But now I'm thinking the two and a half helpings were a little too much :~(

I now have very elegant eyebrows and eyelashes you can actually see thanks to a quick trip to the beauty salon this evening. My eyelashes are so pale you can hardly see them if I don't wear mascara everyday, but some days I can't be bothered with the hassle. But now they're a nice dark brown and my eyebrows (which are going gray, BTW!!!!) are light brown and have a wonderful curve. I feel like a whole new woman!

Ugh, my tummy really isn't liking the large amounts of moussaka. I think I need a Rennie. No, not THAT Rennie, although if CKR was to turn up on my doorstep bearing antacids I wouldn't turn him away ;~)
