A merry time was had by all at [livejournal.com profile] out_there's last night. We ate pizza and cake and had shots of alcoholic beverages and squeed over various fandoms which included liberal doses of Sports Night. I failed at about 2.00am, but I did leave behind a hardy group of dedicated fangirls whose stamina was greater than mine.

But having borrowed my brother's car to go out last night, I'm now back to doing the will I/won't I thing over buying new car. I had the car for most of the day and was able to get some things done that I wouldn't have been able to do on my bike. Stuff like taking all my laundry to the laundromat to dry and picking up my new blanket and pillows from K-Mart. I mean I could have done those things on the bike, but it would have been a pain (especially since it's been raining for most of the day) and I wouldn't have been able to do it all at once like I did with the car.

Gah, I don't know. On the one hand it'd be really handy, but on the flip-side I don't like driving that much and with the price of petrol they're getting more and more expensive to run.

I'll think about it and see what happens.

Meanwhile, a more pressing need has arisen; I need new bed linen.

You see, for ages now I've had this fairly consistent theme of greens, mauves and yellows happening. All my linen and blankets have toned in in together so it didn't matter what set I was using, it'd all blended nicely. Now I've bought this spiffy new raspberry coloured blanket and nothing matches as well as it used to. Granted one of my doona covers has pretty much passed it's use-by date and I've been wanting to replace it for a while, but the other is not that old and I want to keep using it.

Also I'm notoriously fussy when it comes to these things (it took me about five years to choose a lamp!) and I just know I'll spend the next few months faffing around with sheets and doona covers without getting anywhere. I get this idea of what I want, but then nothing I see matches the fantasy so I end up with nothing.

Except for shoes, of course. I have no problem choosing shoes. Hence my latest ebay purchase:

Aren't they cute!

I've also got my eye on a pair of red sandals with a stacked heel that I saw in Midas in Lygon street on Wednesday. I'm going to try them on next week and will probably put them on layby when I get paid on Friday. And yesterday I saw a really cute pair of green stilettos at Joanne Mercer that I also want to try. Amusingly enough their style name is 'Casey' so I suspect they were meant to be.

Can you get the car but carry on using the bike for everyday stuff, just use the car for distances and big shops? Or is it just as expensive to keep it off-street as run it all the time? (Can't be, surely, the petrol costs would make a difference.)

These are things I, too, shall have to learn very soon.

Excellent shoes. I may need to buy shoes for bro's wedding. But they will have to be shoes I can use again (and again and again). H'm.

I'm giving up thinking about cars. I find it's not conducive to good metal health. Or my bank balance. Not when I'd rather save up nd go overseas when I finish uni next year.

Shoes, of course, don't count. They're a necessity!

If you can get by without one, it's probably as well to shelve the whole thing. I actually do need to get a car (but first learn to drive!), because public transport's so bad around here. Also, my new job (crosses fingers, attempts not to jinx self) is moving next year, and I'll need to drive by then!

I'm actually quite frugal on the shoe front, though.

If I were still living in the old home town I'd wouldn't think twice bout buying one because the public transport there is so crap. But in Melbourne it not too bad so I can get away without for a while longer.

I wish I were frugal on the shoe front. I'm like a bower bird finding a shiny object. Must have now!

On the other hand, having tried on my Hetty dress for the upcoming wedding (and also established that one of my other dresses would probably also do, or is it a bit washed out? H'mm), I need some nice sandals, as I'm not wearing tights in September and my only good shoes are court shoes, and also a black shrug. So I looked on eBay for the shrug, and in spite of the fact that I know I need something quite plain and black and knitted so that I'll get more than one use out of it, my eyes are irresistibly drawn to anything that says 'vintage' and/or 'beaded'. We all have our own weaknesses.

I have the same thing with 'vintage' and 'beaded'. I was rumaging through my wardrobe the other day and I found a beaded vintage cardi that I can't even remember buying!

Maybe you didn't buy it, maybe the cardi fairy brought it. In which case, you definitely win all round.

If the shoes you want were called 'Danny', now ...

I'm sure there are shoes called 'Danny' out there somehwere. And if I find them, I'll definitely buy them!

Well, it would be a Sign, wouldn't it? And when the universe gives you a Sign, it's rude to ignore it.

Well, if I get the Casey shoes, it stands to reason that I hve to get the Danny sohes to go with them. They *are* partners after all.

Hee, car parts! I love that you can buy just about anything on ebay if you really want to.

It sounds like you had a blast. It's a shame, because I'm in Melbourne briefly this weekend, but I'm not going to get the chance to meet up with anyone. (I'm visiting a dear friend so the weekend will basically be drinking and being hungover - and she's on the Eastern side of Melbourne and out a little).

Which is a shame...but it will happen.

It was great fun watching a slashy show with bunch of like-minded people. I'm not sure what the people at the pizza restaurant thought of our conversation, but what the heck!

It's a shame you won't be here long enough to catch up. But I'm definitely coming to Sydney in September for that conference so maybe then?
