I've just stumbled across the Vintage Pattern Lending Library. I think I'm in love, especially with these. I want a job there NOW!

I'm also in love with the cake I made to take into work for my birthday. Yes, I know, one shouldn't be expected to make one's own birthday cake. However it seems to be a tradition amongst the library fraternity in Australia to supply your own cake on the big day. I've done it with every library I've worked in it would seem odd to not be baking my heart out before or on the day in question. This year my birthday treat for the gang was a chocolate and hazelnut Tyroler cake, made extra special through the use of gluten-free flour to accommodate my colleague who has Coeliac disease. Word to the wise; like most cakes involving chocolate it's even better when it's a couple of days old and has had the chance to mature for a while. OMG, yum!

I'm not so much in love with work at the moment. Sometimes being a boss is hard and I have new found respect for those in charge when, on a daily basis, they are confronted with the neuroses of others and they can't say a thing because it would be high unprofessional, not to mention just plain rude.

Mostly, though, I'm in love with this:

You know, I have an ever-growing appreciation of grey hair. Maybe I should stop dying mine away?

ION: belated Happy Birthday wishes.

One of my friends at work started going grey in her early 20's and is now completely silver. She's the same age as me, has never dyed it and looks wonderful. It's a bold step, but maybe one that could really work for you?

I found my first grey hair in my teens. It's not yet completely silver though - there's still colour at the crown.

When I first went red it made me look much less washed out, and I think the current blonde still helps with that. Also, I'd have to come to terms with suddenly looking about ten years older. And yes, that's pure unadulterated vanity, but nonetheless significant for it :-)

Sounds silly but I have one grey hair at my temple and I'm valiantly resisting the urge to pluck it out because I feel like I should be mature enough to age gracefully. But there's no law that says you have to and until they make one I say bring on the peroxide!

It's the tradition in every British office that the birthday person brings in cake - actually, no: almost every office, CurrentJob is different. CurrentJob is different in many, many ways. Your cake sounds yummy!

It was a very yummy cake. it took a little bit of fussing around, what with having to separate six eggs and all, but it came out really well and was fantastic a couple of days later when it had ad the chance to mature for a while. Definitely one I'll be making again *g*

This sounds interesting. I've been pretty critical of my boss lately, but of course keeping everybody happy isn't always easy!
