I've just stumbled across the Vintage Pattern Lending Library. I think I'm in love, especially with these. I want a job there NOW!

I'm also in love with the cake I made to take into work for my birthday. Yes, I know, one shouldn't be expected to make one's own birthday cake. However it seems to be a tradition amongst the library fraternity in Australia to supply your own cake on the big day. I've done it with every library I've worked in it would seem odd to not be baking my heart out before or on the day in question. This year my birthday treat for the gang was a chocolate and hazelnut Tyroler cake, made extra special through the use of gluten-free flour to accommodate my colleague who has Coeliac disease. Word to the wise; like most cakes involving chocolate it's even better when it's a couple of days old and has had the chance to mature for a while. OMG, yum!

I'm not so much in love with work at the moment. Sometimes being a boss is hard and I have new found respect for those in charge when, on a daily basis, they are confronted with the neuroses of others and they can't say a thing because it would be high unprofessional, not to mention just plain rude.

Mostly, though, I'm in love with this: )

More birthweek fun! Dinner and drinks with work friends last night that culminated in me and best work friend singing along to all the songs while we watched Footloose. I'm sure her dad now thinks we're completely insane and today's hangover was less than fun, but it was sufficiently cured by the judicious application of coffee, peanut butter toast, Vietnamese soup and take away lasagna for dinner.

Thank you so much for the flowers, [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, and [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle your present arrived and I love it! [livejournal.com profile] slashybits your card arrived as well and it's so cute!

However it can't be all birthweek fun and more mundane things must also be achieved this week. Things like going to gym to work off some of the food and drink consumed over the last few days, vacuuming the living room and getting my tax done so I don't miss out on Rudd's economic stimulus bribe payment. I'm also heading up to the old home town on the weekend and I don't want to come home to the pile of laundry sitting unfolded in the basket. So it's not all fun in Layleeland. No wonder I can't be bothered cooking.

Tahnk you to eveyone who sent me birthday wishes, shoes, a bottle of bubbly from [livejournal.com profile] katikat and a yummy cocktail from [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl. I took the day off work and I've had a very pleasant time going out for breakfast, puttering around the city and eating hot cross buns for dinner. And since I won't be seeing my family until the weekend and will be caching up with various groups of friends throughout the week, I expect the celebrations to carry on for at least the next few days. I've always been a big believer in a birthday week. Why have one birthday day when a whole week of them is seven times the fun? \o/

Of the \o/

- Had dinner with Best Work Friend and A&O last night. We went to Ladro for pizza and then to the bar formerly known and Yeltza1 for drinks. Much pizza was eaten and much wine was consumed and all in all it was a wonderful evening.

- When I got home from dinner there was a birthday card from [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum waiting for me in my letter box. It has shoes on it!

- I have a three day weekend, woot!

- I also have banananana muffins baking in the oven, woot!

- My favourite artisan bakery is opening a shop in Station street. Now I don't have to schlep all the way down to Alexandra Parade for the bestest hot cross buns in the world!

- There were two cute schoolboys busking in Station street this morning. I now have the theme from 'Spiderman' as played on the trumpet and euphonium stuck in my head *g*

- I found a copy of The Cutting Edge in Cash Converters for three dollars today. Toe pick, woot!

However, of the /o\

- I was seriously hung over when I got up this morning and have been walking around in a bit of a daze all day.

- I was going to see The Blow Waves with BWF tonight, but she cancelled on me at the last minute and no one else I know is going so I ended up staying home.

- It's supposed to rain tomorrow and I have all this laundry...

- I also have a blister on my foot :~(

I shall thus leave you with some girly wisdom )

1It changed it's name since I last went there, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's now called.
