Hello everyone!
*waves*
I'm still around, even though it's been about a month since I last posted.
Life has been going along apace. I've been working, of course, hanging out with small children, watching large amounts of Chuck and Life, but not baking or sewing much. I still have no internet access at home, but I have been reading many more books because of it. I went to Queensland for a conference, lost my voice when a virus I picked up at work turned into laryngitis, oh and I was homeless for a week!
Homeless, you say?
Well, yes. Sort of.
What happened was while I was in Queensland my hot water service had a fit and started leaking. And because I was away no one noticed until it started to drip down into my downstairs neighbour's kitchen. You can imagine how excited I was to get THAT phone call in the middle of a session at the conference. Anyway, there wasn't much I could do since I was in Queensland and not due to fly home until Sunday, so I left it to the real estate agent to deal with and spent a relaxing couple of days at friend R's house, all the while thinking I'd come home to a slightly damp carpet and a new hot water service.
Well, nothing prepared me for the swamp smell that greeted me when I finally got home Sunday night. or the fact that the carpet in my bedroom was saturated. None of my belongings was damaged, thank god, but the whole place was pretty much uninhabitable. All I could do was grab some clothes to wear to work in the morning and head over to my brother's house in Sunshine for the night.
A new hot water service was installed fairly quickly, but it took nearly a week for the carpet to be replaced. In the mean time I had to pack half my flat in preparation for the new carpet and oh wot fun it was not trying to squeeze all my books and DVDs into my tiny kitchen and bathroom. While all this was happening I continued to live out of suitcase, returning home only to check my mail, pack my books and collect fresh socks and undies. I lasted two days in Sunshine before the commute to work got to me and then best work friend took pity on me and let me stay with her in Brunswick for the rest of the week. She headed off to the country to see her boyfriend on the weekend, and so I got to hang out with her dad, who shares the house with her, which was fun because K is a really cool dad. And since he was at work both Saturday and Sunday I even had some badly needed alone time.
However while A's generous offer of her home was much appreciated, you have no idea how pleased I was to open the door to my flat on Tuesday to find the new, mushroom-coloured carpet on my floor and the complete absence of swamp smell. I still haven't finished unpacking all my staff and the carpet feels kind of cheap and nylon-y under my bare feet, but I'm home and sleeping in my own bed for the first time in two weeks and it's bliss!
