One of these days I'll make a post that doesn't include the words 'still sick'. Today in not that day.

I've pretty much written this week off. Got another certificate from the doctor to cover me for today and tomorrow and I'm hoping that when I go to my appointment tomorrow he'll give another one that lets me work half days for a week or so. I have 94 sick days owning to me. If I get a new job away from the University tomorrow I'll never get paid out for them so I might as well use them.

I just can't believe how tired and washed out I feel. Everything aches and sleeping with a permanently stuffy nose and a constant headache? Not going to happen. I've been using my time to work my way through some of the [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fics that I haven't had a chance to read until now, but even the effort of concentrating on hot boys being teh hawt together is almost too much. This afternoon I went for a walk to post a letter and buy milk, a trip that took me all of ten minutes, and by the time I got home I was completely wiped out.

I think I might have a fever. I was cold and then I was hot and now I'm cold again. The heater is on full-bore and I'm rugged up in flannel pyjamas and a jumper, yet I'm freezing.

Oh dear.

  • I've just set my first batch of sourdough in a warm place to rise. Fingers crossed that tonight I'll be dining on newly baked bread and homemade jam for dinner *g*

ETA: I'm not happy with the way it turned out. I don't think the starter liked it when I transferred it to a bigger bowl a couple of days ago and it's getting harder and harder to maintain a constant temperature in my lame-arse old oven so it came out kind of flat and a little underdone in the middle. I'll give it another go, but maybe not until I'm on holidays in a couple of weeks and can use my sister's really good oven when I'm in the old home town for a few days.

  • Meh, the flat next door to mine is vacant again and a whole gaggle of giggly girls just came to look at it. The type of girls who'd blare Brittney Spears and Lady Gaga when most people are trying to go to sleep. Hopefully they'll all decided that it's not worth paying $240 a week for what amounts to two rooms and a car park and a quiet little old lady who retires at 8pm on the dot will take it instead.

  • My own flat, however, looks like a bomb hit it and I really do need to pull my finger out and do some cleaning. But the cleaning will have to wait until after I've ridden up to Northcote to buy some groceries and such.

  • All the new [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang fics continue to be a source of joy. I don't read much fic anymore, but these have really got me feeling fannish again.

  • I keep leaving my mobile phone at home when I go out and I'm not missing it at all. Does this mean I can possibly live without it?

  • Really. Must. Do. Laundry.

The weather today has been miserably cold and wet. I was going to ride to work but changed my mind at the last minute when I opened my front door and saw that it was pouring. Thank god the bus was running five minutes late, that's all I can say. But it didn't stop me from going to gym after work for a quick 40 minute cardio session and some crunches. After that I came home and had the most enormous dinner of grilled chicken and steamed vegies. With all that good food and exercise I should be feeling all virtuous if it weren't for the fact that I stuffed my face with Scotch Finger and Nice biscuits at the training session I attended today :~\

However judging by the rain pelting down at the moment I shouldn't even contemplate using my bike as transport tomorrow and will drive to work instead. I want to go to gym again (third day running!) and while I could do what I did today - get the bus home then drive over to Fitzroy - but I'm more likely to get there if I take my stuff with me and go straight after work. My motivational levels are quite high at the moment, but the weather is a big downer and usually at this time of year once I get home, I'm home for the night.

Speaking of transport my car registration notice turned up in the mail today and I am sure it's at least $50 more than it was last year. Did they put the fees up without me noticing? I bet you they did, the bastards.

*grumps*

In news not related to driving or exercise, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 I am having a go at making sourdough bread. I found a recipe in an old copy of Better Homes and Gardens magazine at gym the other day1 so I stole it and have been conscientiously feeding my starter for the past three days. When I checked on it this morning it was so huge I had to transfer it to a slightly bigger bowl, which I hope hasn't disturbed it too much. I have one more day of feeding to go and then on Thursday I can bake. I'm already planning on starting work early so can go home at 4pm to muck around with flour and give it its requisite five hours or rising time. If all goes well I will be feasting on lovely fresh bread for breakfast the next day. Or else tossing a rock-hard lump of foul tasting dough into the bin with many muttered curses.

Eeep, posting has started over at [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang 2009! OMG, so much fic, so little time!!

1Okay, so it's slightly related to exercise, but only slightly.
