I am ensconced in the old home town for the next few days, ostensibly to keep mum company, but to also give my sister a break after her vallient effort of the last couple of weeks. Our brother, in typical fashion, has blown in and out a couple of times, staying long enough to collect his dog or scoff the last of the shepherds pie I made for dinner, and then fang off into the night before we can sit him down and discuss the mother situation. I swear he's in total denial about the whole thing, which doesn't help anyone in the here and now. Meanwhile I'm calling various health and aged-care services around the town, organising someone to help mum bathe and clean the house. N, in the meantime, has had mum staying at her house for the last few days and is planning on having her back on the weekend because our brother is 'busy' and is 'unavailable' to help look after his elderly mother. Bah!

Anyway, enough of that. In other news I very much enjoyed tonight's Supernatural. I trusted Kripke to make the whole idea of another brother something that wouldn't make us throw things at the TV screen and he didn't let us down. Poor old Dean, as if John hadn't already let him down enough when he was alive, he has to keep doing it from the grave. Sam, seem to take it much better and I liked how frank he was about the life of a hunter and how Adam basically had to cut all ties with his life if he wanted to follow in their footsteps. He's so beyond the whiny bitch that was first season Sam you'd hardly think it was the same character. I approve. The ghoul thing was a bit of a cop-out but meh, what else could they do to wrap thing up?

I've also been indulging in a little West Wing viewing the last couple of days. Just random episodes from here and there. I figured if I have to spend a week in the old home town in the middle of winter, I can at least I bring some old friends to keep me sane company. Wouldn't you do the same?

There was an earthquake in Melbourne today. I felt it and everything! I missed the last one due to inebriation, but this time I was sober and sitting at my desk and all of a sudden there was shaking and rumbling. It was uncanny.

Two days to go until I have a three day weekend, woot!

In honour of the looming b-day I got my legs and eyebrows waxed today, and have work drinks tomorrow and Friday to look forward to. I'm having dinner with A, A & O at Ladro after the work thingie on Friday, and on Saturday night I'm going to see The Blow Waves at The Order of Melbourne, possibly with best work friend. Sunday will hopefully be a day of rest and I have a full day of shopping planned for my day off on Monday. I'm planning on being somewhat pooped by the time Tuesday rolls around, however if all goes well I'll have fabulous new shoes to wear to my meeting Tuesday morning :~)

Aw, Ron Silver died. That is so sad. I loved him as Bruno in The West Wing, and he was always great in anything he appeared in, even if the project its self was pretty crap. RIP, Ron, you'll definitely be missed.

Gah, I was going to go to bed early but now I've been suckered into an episode of CSI. Must find out what happens. Bed can wait. Will be sleep-deprived again tomorrow. Meh.

Meh, my intertubes connection is very dicey at the moment and keeps dropping out, particularly as I try and leave comments on people's entries. I'm not ignoring you, oh dearest flist, it's just the technology is not my friend right at this moment :~(

God, I'm exhausted! I schlepped over to Rathdown Remnants today where, as usual, I bought up big (please, someone stop me from visiting any more fabric shops, eh?) and after I had some lunch I spent the rest of the afternoon sewing. The result being that little Miss Z now has a pretty new dress with matching knickers for Christmas, but all that hard work has worn me out. However if I put in similar effort tomorrow, little Miss M will have the same, just after I pop over to Darn Cheap Fabrics in the morning...

I has Christmas cards \o/ Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle, [livejournal.com profile] slashybits, [livejournal.com profile] willows_mom, [livejournal.com profile] aprilmay430, [livejournal.com profile] micehell and [livejournal.com profile] sansets, they're all wonderful!

I cannot believe it's only one week until Christmas. Meanwhile I have to try and catch up with various groups of friends before the big day, attend the Kylie Minogue concert on Friday, finish present buying, make more fruit mince pies and try my hand at homemade marshmallows, clean my flat, find some shoes to go with my new dress and do some more sewing. Why is the day not 48 hours long???

Did I mention that while I was in Queensland I taught R's daughter how to make Paul Gross Arms and now it's her most favourite thing to do?

*is a fannish enabler \o/*

I need to go to bed because as per usual the builders next door are going to start work at 7.30am. Do they not realise that I am on holidays and wish to sleep in?

In conclusion, Toby Ziegler )

How would you like to start making a cake, only as you set the butter and sugar to cream you realise that you didn't have any eggs? No, it didn't happen to me but it was touch and go for a minute. Not good when I'm baking banananana cake for a sick work friend.

[livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, your present arrived and it's fantastic! A sparkley, girly evening bag! How did you know that I would love it ;~)

OMG, Charisma Carpenter is on Back to You and she's playing a character who has a son named Xander! How camp is that???

Speaking of which, there's a very interesting article on moonlight.com that discusses what TV actors really earn. It makes for quite an entertaining read and also goes a long way to explaining why, just when we've grown to love a certain recurring character in a show, the actor ups and leaves for a more lucrative job elsewhere: How Much DOES An Actor Make?.

As of tonight I have a new next door neighbour. She (he?) seems to be a little bit younger than my ex-neighbour who I hardly heard a peep from the whole time he was here. I hope he (she?) realises that this is a quiet block in a quiet street with quiet residents who will not tolerate a repeat of the great Grease is the Word debacle of 2008.

Today I very especially brilliant at work and even managed to smooth some extremely ruffled feathers. How the hell did I become so efficient??

Just then I got all excited when I found out that one of my favourite due South authors - one who seems to have drifted away from the fandom - had written a new dS story. Then I realised that it was Ray/Ray (a pairing I cannot bring myself to read (sorry to those on my flist who write it)) and my woohoo! moment died :~(

My birthday presents arrived today and I am now the proud owner of the 25th anniversary DVD edition of Brideshead Revisited (God, is it really twenty five years???) and the limited edition box set of Brokeback Mountain. Very good timing to, cos I'd just run out of West Wing episodes to watch.

Once again red wine is my friend.

I'm watching The West Wing, and holy hell I'd forgotten how shocking the opening sequence of Gaza is.
