once more with...

I was going to watch me some Sports Night today but ended up going to K-Mart where I bought the sixth season of Buffy so my evening has been spent wallowing in angst and vampires instead. I also bought an ironing board cover and some Ferraro Rocher. I'm not sure purchase I like the most. I suspect it might be the ironing board cover.

My essay has inched up to just over 2500 words. Technically I've only got 500 words to go, but I need to talk about best practice a little bit more then move into technologies and implementation issues before I finish, so it may end up being 3500 when I'm done. At least thing time it won't end up a 4600 monster like the last one did, although I did get a HD for it in the end.

Okay, I had it in my mind to google something. I opened a new tab, typed in the address, but by the time I'd gotten to the page I had completely forgotten what I was looking for. Maybe it was my brain, perchance?

You know what's fantastic? Date and banananana muffins, that's what's fantastic. Especially for breakfast with a nice cup of tea.

Meep, I've just realised. Only three weeks until Sports Night Chat! Must to be getting the viewing list organised and reminding people to download Trillian if the haven't done so already.

But really, maybe i'll just go to bed.

Is it wrong that I want fish and chips and beer for dinner tonight?

Season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is finally mine! I went up to Northcote Plaza today to buy moisturiser and to beat the heat and I found the illusive season four box set at K-Mart. And best of all, it was on sale so I saved $15! Obviously the wait was meant to be.

*wins at life \L/*

All of a sudden Sunday is a good night for TV with Ugly Betty premiering on channel seven, followed by Grey's Anatomy at 8.30. As well as all that I still have last night's West Wing to watch and I taped How to Steal a Million with Audrey Hepburn when I went out this afternoon. Along with my current Sex and the City marathon and my new Buffy DVDs, I am suddenly very spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment.

Can someone please tell me why Britney Spears has shaved her head? It's intriguing, yet I can't be bothered googling the reason at this point in time.

fanish things

And in fanish news, I've decided to give up on House. I'm working late on Wednesday's at the moment and don't usually get home until at least 9.30pm. I've been taping House at 8.30, but frankly it's bored me to tears for a while now so I'm going to replace it with Heroes and see if all it lives up to all the squee.

Meanwhile I'm hanging out until Friday week before I order my West Wing box set. I figure that a) February 23rd is exactly four weeks away from my birthday so I'm not jumping the gun too much, and b) I should probably give Amazon at least that long to get it to me. I just hope I'm not still waiting for it in May. And of course I can't wait for the next (and final) installment of Slings & Arrows to come out on DVD, although I suspect that won't be until it screens in the US, which is soon.

Last night I started trawling around the Sex and the City message board on IMDB. Very. Scary. Place. I'm sure half the contributors think that Carrie, et al, are real, and the other half like to pick fun at the first half for being such weirdos. Plus, most everyone seems to hate Charlotte. I don't know what they'd do to me if they found out that my favourite character is Miranda. Give me the Sports Night board anytime. At least you can never have too much of who is cooler, Casey or Dan?

I still haven't bought season four of Buffy. I kind of forgot that I was looking for it. Maybe I'll drop into JB and buy it when I'm in the city in the morning.

rain rain, come again

The worst thing about going away for a couple of days and not bring my computer with me is catching up on my flist when I get back.

*skips 200*

My 10 month old niece can do Paul Gross arms. Of course no one in the family aside from myself knows what Paul Gross arms are and they call them hooray arms. I, however, refer to them (in my head) as Paul Gross arms and you have no idea how proud I am to be the aunt of a budding fangirl.

\o/

I've survived yet another weekend in the old home town, babysitting the nephew and helping my sister and BiL move into their new house. I worked out last night that I've been up there every week since before Christmas. I think it's the greatest amoubnt of time I've spent there since before I moved to Melbourne.

I have to admit, though, as much as I love hanging out with the family, I'm a little tired of all the driving backwards and forwards that I've been doing, so I'm having an old home town break for the next little while, or at least until my nephew's birthday in early February. It'll be nice to spend the next couple of weekends at home, faffing around at Savers and doing my shopping in Station street instead of struggling through Friday evening traffic and sleeping in the slightly too firm bed in my old room at mum's house.

After nearly dying from the heat last week, it's been raining virtually non-stop all weekend, which is about the best thing ever. Of course it makes driving along the highway slightly scary, but it's nice to see lawns start to become green and puddles forming along the side of the road. Also, I found banannananas for $3.00 a kilo in Melton and I got some very yummy peaches and nectarines from Safeway so my fruit cravings are quite fully satisfied at the moment.

Oh lord, where did the weekend go? At least this week is a short week and the Australia Day holiday has the good grace to fall on Friday this year, which means long weekend! Let's hope there isn't a repeat of last year's unfortunate incident wherein I locked myself out of my flat in 40C heat and had to get my brother to drag his VBL (very big ladder) all the way across town in said heat so I could break and enter my own home.

*checks for spare keys*

I still haven't been able to find the Buffy season 4 DVDs. I tried the K-Mart in the old home town on the weekend, but it only had seasons 5 and 7, and when I decided to stop at the one in Melton on my way home I got there about five minutes after it closed. I really hate buying DVD sets out of order, but I'm beginning to suspect that fate is going to force me to abandon my OCDness over this and get whatever I can find when I find it.

Which reminds me; I left my Doctor Who videos at mum's house. And I may have accidentally introduced the nephew to the Doctor. It's not my fault the DVD remove looks almost exactly the same at the VCR remote!

My car horn is doing odd things. I suspect it has something to do with the alarm system that the car used to have before I bought it. It's very embarrassing when one is making a three point turn in the car park at Safeway and one's car horn spontaneously beeps at innocent bystanders. I really must get that seen to.

BTW, the other day [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum suggested that we might have a Sports Night Six Degrees viewing party sometime this year. What do other people think?

I really must go to bed.

please don't rain on my parade

Next time I decide to go to Ikea on the weekend, someone please slap me.

I've had a slightly frustrating day. Ikea failed to have the storage thingies I wanted, I wandered around Victoria Gardens for so long that I didn't make it to the shops I wanted to visit in Station Street before they closed, and I got attitude from some arsehole guy when I asked him to step aside so I could push the button at the traffic lights.

*stabbity*

Anyway, I now have a clean bathroom, and in an effort to inject some positive karma into my life, the friendship meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] engenda.

Comment here and I'll tell you one thing that I like about you. Then go post it in your LJ and return the sentiment. You know the drill.

Go on, you know you want to *g*

I'm up to Bad Girls on Buffy, and I think Anthony Stewart Head with a sword is one of my new favourite kinks.

*wanders off to imaging Giles practicing swordplay in the library*

and i haven't even had my first cup of coffee for the day!

I must pry myself off the couch and jump into the shower because, OMG I have an ENORMOUS amount of housework to do today. That's what you get for hardly being home over the course of two weeks. Things build up and suddenly there's guests arriving tomorrow and you haven't cleaned the bathroom in ages!

I also want to cycle over to Ikea to buy a storage container thingie for my shoes. These days I keep my shoes in the boxes they came in, but I wasn't always that anal about them and used to just throw the boxes away, hence the tangle of footwear at the bottom of my wardrobe. I saw these containers in Ikea when I was there a couple of weeks ago and thought they'd be a good way to sort out the mess. They come in a pack of two so I can have one for boots and sneakers, and the other for everything else.

Last night I watched three episodes of Buffy; The Wish (first glimpse of Anya) Amends (always makes me cry, especially the scene with Buffy and Angel just before it starts snowing) and Gingerbread (Oz and Xander as so cute when they buddy up). I started watching Helpless with David Fury's commentary, but lord he's boring. I don't know if it's his method of delivery or the fact that he's got nothing particularly interesting to say, but I found myself nodding off about twenty minutes into the episode so I went to bed. I'll finish it today sans commentary.

Now I'm wishing TPTB would re-issue Sports Night on DVD, complete with commentary tracks from Aaron and various cast members. And behind the scenes stuff as well. I'd love to see some of the takes from when Josh and Peter were laughing so hard it would take them an hour to shoot one thirty second scene. It'd be worth have two copies of the series just for that.

there is no deal, but if there was a deal it would concern murder

I haven't responded to all the comments you guys left in my post yesterday, but I do appreciate all the hugs and good wishes and return them to you ten-fold.

*huggles flist*

Back to work today. Not much has changed in the last three weeks, except of course for the stuff that has. Like all the rats who jumped from the sinking ship people who resigned while I was away, the cafe next to the library being closed for renovations, and various businesses over at the student union playing a game of musical shops. It's all slightly unsettling, but as long as I can still buy coffee and Freddo Frogs I don't care what shop goes where and why.

Of course when the most exciting thing that happens to you all day is placing a stationary order, you just know that you're in a career rut.

I now have a vague thought regarding my [livejournal.com profile] picfor1000 story. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, I didn't use any of the great suggestions you gave to me so you can have those back if you like.

Oh my, I totally forgot how buff Nicholas Brendon was in the third season of Buffy. I wish he'd worn that grey t-shirt more often. And my old love for Cordelia/Xander has totally resurfaced, except for the fact many of the fics that I once thought were wonderful are either not really as great as I thought they were, or pretty much vanished into the ethernet.

Oh well, there's still Josh/Donna to keep me going.

And how weird is it that Rebecca is on The West Wing? I keep waiting for Danny to show up and give her an abacus. She has, however, had the privledge of kissing Paul Gross so I guess she's got something going for her.

So in conclusion, Callum Keith Rennie is very very pretty.

blowing up a storm

I'm home and I have clothes again, having risked life and limb driving along the Western Highway in gale-force winds.

Meep!

Once I got into town, I stopped at Safeway to get some milk and something for dinner, and OMG, I swear to god there were hot cross buns in the bakery department. It's January 6, guys, only two weeks after Christmas and thirteen weeks until Easter! The least you could do is give us a month or so between shoving one overly commercialised holiday down out throats and the next!

Am still loving Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I just watched Passion and I swear that episode does not get any less powerful with time, and Angel killing Jenny Calendar is just as shocking as it was the first time I watched it back in 1997.

Okay, it's way too hot. I got home to find my pot of coriander had died a very unfortunate death and my flat had the ambiance of an oven. I've opened all the windows and the fan is on, but I suspect I'll be in for a fairly sleepless night :~|

I keep thinking today is Sunday, but it's only Saturday, which means I have one more day of leisure before I go back to work. This is a good thing only I don't think of it in terms of, oh god I have to go back to work on Monday.

if the apocalypse comes, beep me

e So much for not getting any Christmas presents this year. I've actually done very well, if you don't count the fact that I bought most of them myself. My bank account is now crying out in agony, but so far the tally is:
  • Fic by [info]phoebesmum
  • New mobile phone
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons 1-3 on DVD
  • A cook book
  • Kitchen accoutrements
  • Make up
  • Bike Helmet
  • Silicon cake pan
  • Vintage sewing patterns
  • shoes
The shoes were a last minute gift. I saw them when I went shopping yesterday and didn't buy them, then decided last night that they would go great with my new dress (when I finally get around to making it) so I went back for them today. I'm currently sitting here with just about all my toes covered in band aids because I am determined to wear them to the party I'm going to tomorrow night.

Have spent the evening watching season one of Buffy for the first time in ages. Joss Whedon's commentary on Welcome to the Hellmouth is highly amusing, and god, some of the clothes Buffy wore in that season are just horrendous! Pucci-esque mini dresses, midriff tops, high-rise pants, tie-dyed t-shirts and chunky boots. Did we really wear that stuff in the mid 90's?

*shudders*

However I am amused no end by Giles using a scanner to check out books in his library, and Cordelia really was the biggest bitch in the world, wasn't she? Funnily enough, though, I much prefer her as a bitch to when she became Saint Cordy in Angel. She had way more depth of character when she was dishing out cutting put-downs.

Oh lord, look at the time. For the last few nights I've jumped online, intending to just catch up on my flist and check my email, but end up spending hours surfing around eBay and obsessively refreshing my flist. No wonder my housework has gotten out of hand. I haven't been doing any to keep it in check!
