of the french style

Ah, it's finally the end of the week. I was going to drive up to the old home town after work this afternoon, but I'm so tired I was afraid I'd fall asleep while I was driving so I put it off until tomorrow morning. I don't think my sister is too happy with that particular decision because she was counting on me for mother duty, but I'm suspecting she'd be less happy with having to attend my funeral because I died in a fiery car crash on the Western Freeway.

So I'm home sitting on the couch and enjoying glass of three of red wine. A French Bordeaux for a change. I'm finding it to be a little light-weight compared to the robust Australian Shiraz that is my usual choice, but it's a warm night so a light style wine is very easy on the pallet. And you've gotta love Aldi and their eclectic selection of beverages.

I also made the Best Sandwich Ever!TM for dinner tonight. I was going to do pasta, my usual Friday night meal, but I has no pasta sauce in the freezer and I couldn't be arsed cooking when I finally got home. So I pulled out the sandwich maker and threw together a combination of ham, cheese, tomato, capers, basil and tomato paste on wholemeal spelt that turned into the Best Sandwich Ever!TM The best part about it were the crispy bits of cheese at the edge that formed while the sandwich was toasting. And I really can't get enough of capers at the moment. I'm putting them in just about everything I make. It's probably just as well that my natural cooking style veers toward the Italian and involves a lot of tomatoes, olive oil, fresh vegetables, garlic and basil because I suspect capers wouldn't taste so good in a stir fry.

Mum's out of hospital, thank god, and feeling much better, however we still need to devise some sort of long term solution to this whole scenario. It does not help that when she's in good health and feeling fine she will not even entertain the thought of moving into an assisted living facility. But she's turning eighty five in a little under two weeks and judging by past experience, I'm estimating that we'll be visiting her in hospital again sometime around Australia Day in January. I can only hope that common sense will win out, but then again who needs common sense when you're nearly eighty five?

While I was eating the Best Sandwich Ever!TM I watched Transformers on the teev and I have to say, someone should talk to the Cohen brothers about casting Shia LaBeouf in one of their movies. He may seem to naturally gravitate toward the mindless blockbusters, but I suspect that with a decent director and a sharp as nails script he could be the next John Turturro. He was certainly able to hold his own against the man himself in the aforementioned blockbuster.

In other fanish news I am about three episodes behind with Supernatural and I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to catch up. It's finally returning to Australian TV on Monday and I'm not sure whether to watch the episodes I have on my USB dive or just wait until they pop up on the bif screen, so to speak. With Christmas looming and most of my free time already taken up with various social functions, not to mention finding a few minutes to go to gym or buy toilet paper, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to them. Why can't there be forty-eight hours in a day? Just occasionally when we need the extra time!

Meh, now it's raining. There go my plans to spend the weekend wearing sundresses. Meh.

ETA: Because some things bear repeating:

Do you think that if we lobby enough scientists they'd clone Paul Gross so we could all have one?

nothing to write home about

My week has been fairly blah. Not unpleasant or anything, just boring. Work continues along apace, mother is doing well for a change and I've made it to gym twice, which is more than I've done in a long time. I have been rather tired, but going to bed at 9.30 last night helped a lot and so far I haven't been rained on as I've ridden my bike home at night. Small victories, eh?

However Supernatural continues to delight cut for spoilers )

I've also caught up on Castle and might have a look at Eastwick if only for Paul Gross running around being charmingly evol as only Paul Gross can be.

Oh, and apparently Katee Sackhoff wouldn't mind being stranded on a desert island with Callum. Can't say I blame her, really.

And how's this for a small world? Turns out the father of one of my staff is a guy I used to work with at Darebin Libraries over ten years ago. I had no idea until I mentioned to her in passing that I used to be a casual at Preston library and then she went, "Then you must know my dad!" Talk about a blast from the past!

LJ just went weird on me and I thought it had eaten my entire post. It's back now but I've forgotten what else i was going to say. Mustn't have been that important after all.

things that make me squee

I'm feeling much better today, even though I still didn't get much sleep last night. However I'm not going to think about that. What I am going to think about is things that make me go squee! To wit...

It's 1.30 in the afternoon and I'm still in my PJs. That's not a bad thing, is it?

Because I am a huge dork, I made a chart of the results of my poll. The general conclusion was, most people love cake and Paul Gross really will rule the universe one day, just you wait and see!

busy bee

Meh, my intertubes connection is very dicey at the moment and keeps dropping out, particularly as I try and leave comments on people's entries. I'm not ignoring you, oh dearest flist, it's just the technology is not my friend right at this moment :~(

God, I'm exhausted! I schlepped over to Rathdown Remnants today where, as usual, I bought up big (please, someone stop me from visiting any more fabric shops, eh?) and after I had some lunch I spent the rest of the afternoon sewing. The result being that little Miss Z now has a pretty new dress with matching knickers for Christmas, but all that hard work has worn me out. However if I put in similar effort tomorrow, little Miss M will have the same, just after I pop over to Darn Cheap Fabrics in the morning...

I has Christmas cards \o/ Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle, [livejournal.com profile] slashybits, [livejournal.com profile] willows_mom, [livejournal.com profile] aprilmay430, [livejournal.com profile] micehell and [livejournal.com profile] sansets, they're all wonderful!

I cannot believe it's only one week until Christmas. Meanwhile I have to try and catch up with various groups of friends before the big day, attend the Kylie Minogue concert on Friday, finish present buying, make more fruit mince pies and try my hand at homemade marshmallows, clean my flat, find some shoes to go with my new dress and do some more sewing. Why is the day not 48 hours long???

Did I mention that while I was in Queensland I taught R's daughter how to make Paul Gross Arms and now it's her most favourite thing to do?

*is a fannish enabler \o/*

I need to go to bed because as per usual the builders next door are going to start work at 7.30am. Do they not realise that I am on holidays and wish to sleep in?

In conclusion, Toby Ziegler )

fandom really does rock

The day started out bright and sunny, but has deteriorated into gray and gloomy since lunch time. However none of that matters because it has been such a great week for fandom!

First, of course, there was Jared and Jensen being super adorkable at the Red Bull Soap Box Derby in Vancouver.

Look at them!!! Don'tcha just want to put them in your pocket and take them home with you? )

Then Callum stepped up to the plate with his debut episode as Lew Ashby in Californication. Of course [livejournal.com profile] c_regalis had to do some pic spam, as you do.

Hi, Lew, how's it going? )

But then the Js started to feel neglected so a visit to the SPN set by Buddy TV brought us the news Jared and Jensen are now roomies, the idea of which made every fangirl's ovaries go boom! Warning, the article does contain spoilers for unaired episodes so click with caution.

But really the week has belonged to Paul Gross and his amazing ability to become even better looking with each passing year. Of course all the TIFF photos have been doing the rounds. [livejournal.com profile] scriggle and [livejournal.com profile] sam80853 among others have been posting picspam galore, but then yesterday [livejournal.com profile] eskarinasmith posted a link to Paul's Sharp For Men interview and accompanying OMG GUH! photoshoot.

Just, GUH! )

With Passchendale opening at TIFF this week Paul Gross is, of course, all over the news at the moment. This, I thinks, pretty much sums up why we all love Paul to distraction, even though he's an increadible dork at times.

a listy type of list

- I haven't talked about the LJ elections so far because I don't feel like I can contribute anything that hasn't already been said. I have voted, and that's as far as I was going to take it, but seriously, this is going way too far and the person or persons who initiated it should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

- About this time last year I changed my electricity provider, swapping to a company that had a wider variety of green options. However for some reason my old provider failed to notice that I no longer required their services and kept sending me bills for the remainder of the year, despite the fact that I'd told them on several occasions that I was no longer their customer. I thought I'd finally resolved the situation until I got home last night to find what looked like a bill from them in my letter box. Imagine my surprise upon opening the envelope to find that it wasn't a bill, rather it was a letter telling me that at some stage I'd over paid them and they were refunding me $140. Woot \o/

- Every time the latest TAC ads for speeding come on TV I start crying.

- Paul Gross really is rather fabulous, isn't he?

- Family Guy version of Star Wars. *snerk*

- I didn't think the skirt I made last night was going to work until I took it in slightly and put it on with my high heeled boots, and then it looked fabulous!

- Eric Kripke on season four of Supernatural and Dean's fate. *wibbles*

- It's Friday tomorrow and it's payday. Two good reasons to get up in the morning *g*

the paul gross you have when you don't have paul gross

You remember how I had a CKR-a-like at my old gym? Well, while I was waiting for my flight on Monday I saw a Paul Gross-a-like at the airport! They were so very similar that at first I thought it really was him and couldn't tear my eyes away. But after I'd stared at him for a while taken a closer look I realised that no, Paul hadn't made a surprise visit down under. Because while his features are very similar, his guy was about ten years younger and he was nowhere near as classically handsome as Paul. Also, he was wearing some dodgey looking necklace that not even Brian Hawkins would touch with a ten foot pole.

It's probably just as well it wasn't him. I'm sure my brain would have aslpoded if it had been. And that would have been messy.

undercover, under city lights

Okay, who else thinks The Presets vidoe for This Boy's In Love is just one huge slashfest? I mean, come on! Two semi-naked guys wrestling each other in milk? How can you not see the slash?

*ahem*

I should be doing more than sitting on the couch in my PJs and trawling around LJ but I'm not. I've done the dishes, but I still have to go pack for Sydney, buy coffee and get myself out to the airport for a 2.30 flight. And I will do all that, but just for a while longer I want to sit on the couch and trawl around LJ.

Because by doing so I find out things like the fact that Callum Keith Rennie and Hugh Dillon are in a new movie together via [livejournal.com profile] c_regalis and get to stare at all the new preview shots for Supernatural 3.16. Oh Dean! No wonder Jensen spent most of the last episode in tears.

BTW, has anyone else noticed this? On CKR's IMDB page he's listed as appearing in an episode of the second season Californication! Um, please explain...

Does anyone know what the release dates for Passchendale are? I'm trying to find out of we stand half a chance of seeing it on the big screen in Australia or if I should just preorder my DVDs now.

Alright, I must go and get dressed. I'll see y'all when I get home tomorrow!
