wasn't it supposed to be spring?

My mum just gave me some chocolate. Yum!

OMFG, you would not believe how cold it is in the old home town today. It barely got to 12°C and currently it's around 4°C. All day it's been rain/hail/wind/sun, rain/hail/wind/sun, etc and of course I forgot to bring a coat with me and I've been shivering in a thin jumper and t-shirt all day. It's so cold, my mum has both the central heating and the gas heater in the lounge room going, that's how cold it is.

Um, I kind of went to my graduation ceremony last night, so I am now really truly finished with school. As far as graduations went it was fairly harmless. The speeches didn't drag and they got through the presenting of the degrees fairly quickly. There was the usual highjinks from the class clown types as they accepted their testamurs, and the academics who presented the students did a fantastic job pronouncing the many names of varied ethnic origin. But it was a long evening. I had to be there at 5pm to get gowned up, and the ceremony didn't start until 8pm so my sister and I had to hang around Monash Clayton (not the most riveting local) for ages before anything really happened. And as soon as it was over we drove back to the old home town and it was midnight before we arrived home.

Today I took the nephew to get his hair cut and then we went for a bus ride. I make a fabulous lasagna for dinner, then F took off with my camera and started taking pictures of everything in sight. I said we could have a budding Helmut Lang on our hands. My sister wondered if anyone really needed that many pictures of her bookcase.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at a $400 dress. I'm just saying.

I've also decided that, aside from a choice few LJers whom I trust, I'm going to read any more fan reactions to the latest season of Supernatural. There is a level of bitchiness going on about the direction this season is taking and the additions to the cast that is getting way OTT and making me get all upset and anxious. Just let me enjoy my show, dammit!

I will therefore leave you with part one of [livejournal.com profile] frances_veritas GINORMOUS Jensen Ackles picspam and the cast photo of wee!Josh's new play that [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum posted today.

i can has life in bullet points

  • For a while there spring seemed to finally be springing, but the last couple of days have been a bitterly cold slide back into winter. I got an ice cream headache riding my bike to work today! I'm really rather over it, kthanx.
  • I'm trying my hardest to go to gym three times a week at the moment. I became somewhat out of shape while I was finishing up school last semester and I have this desire to continue to fit into my clothes. And if I work hard enough, I may even venture out in a bathing suit this summer!
  • Speaking of which, I do not miss school in any shape or form. That last semester was such a grind that the fact that I'm about to be permanently disconnected from the Monash intranet does not faze me at all.
  • I'm considering swapping over to broadband (finally!). One of my sister's friends has a wireless router that he doesn't need any more and he offered it to me in exchange for a spot of sewing, and who am I to say no to free technology in exchange for stitching a couple of seams?
  • My next step, however, is to settle on a new ISP. Any suggestions, oh wise and wonderful flist (or at least the Aussie part of it.)
  • I need at least three pairs of new work pants. Mine are all starting to look very shabby and I don't think they're long for this life. This, of course, would entail having some money to spend on work clothes and, um, I kind of fall down a little in that respect.
  • Mmm, bread and butter pudding.
  • The cardigan I'm knitting for the nephew ground to a halt for a while, but lately I've rediscovered my enthusiasm for it. I now have a back and 3/4 of a front half. I just need to do the other front the hood and sleeves and we have cardigan!
  • I'm currently watching a documentary about an Australian artist who works with, amongst other things, hessian, feathers and animals bones. Her work is quite fascinating in a gruesome kind of way.
  • My feet are cold. Must get more socks.

a lady of leisure, finally!

I has scratchy throat and runny nose. Me thinks I has cold. Me's not happy :~(

Many, many thanks to everyone on my flist who sent me well wished about finishing my degree. I have to say, I couldn't have done it without you all. You provided me without countless hours of distraction and kept me sane throughout the entire process. It was a team effort, guys, and you all deserve a huge pat on the back.

*huggles flist*

Today is the first day in about a week that I have no plans, appointments, rendezvous or meetings. It's absolute bliss! The last ten days have be so damn hectic I've hardly had time to breathe, which is why my flat is a mess and I have a huge pile of laundry to do. All of which I will do, eventually. But first, I'm just enjoying putting me feet up and doing nothing *g*

sealth isn't exactly my strong suit

I was going to celebrate the end of my life as a uni student (for now) and the fact that I have the next two weeks off work with some random picspam, but I'm suddenly very tired and a little drunk from the bottle of red I bought to go with my fish and chips so I'll save it until tomorrow. Meanwhile, if there's something (or someone) you'd like me to post a picture of, please feel free to leave a comment with your request and I'll do my damnedest to fulfill it.

Oh my god, I just submitted my very last assignment for my master's. I am officially not a student anymore. I think I need a drink. Or at least fish and chips.

mush-mouse and pumpkin-puss are looking for it

I have just discovered that Jensen Ackles spent several weeks in Melbourne back in 2001 while he worked on some terrible TV movie about Marilyn Monroe. Am now feeling strangely deprived of my chance to stalk him despite the fact that back then I had no idea who he was.

I've given up on Buffy for the moment and have moved on to Sports Night. It was just too depressing and it was affecting my ability to concentrate on my essay. I'm having a hard enough time working on it as it is without the extra added bonus of all the Buffy angst to bring me down. Dan threatening Casey with Frere Jacques for his birthday beats gloomy-doomy Buffy any day.

Ironically, though, after watching Doublemeat Palace I had this huge craving for a hamburger. Weird, yeah, but my mind does often move in mysterious ways. Because it's a public holiday here I had to ride to three different fish and chip shops until I found one that was open because I refuse to go to McDonalds, and I eventually ended up at the one near my place that has just changed hands. The shop looks really good now they've gotten rid of the rusty old drinks fridge and repainted it. The burger wasn't too bad, although it needed more sauce and they left out the tomato, but it filled a spot and the coffee I bought at Degani before I got the hamburger was the best one I'd drunk in ages!

And now for your viewing pleasure, here's a couple of pictures of the roses I bought while I was out this afternoon. They're quite pretty, don't you think?

see the pretty! )

Fic rec! First Kiss by [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212, Sports Night/due South crossover. On a visit to Chicago Dan Rydell meets a Mountie from Canada. I love it when my fandoms collide *g*

Meh, better get back to the essay I guess.

BTW, if anyone can guess which SN episode my subject line came from, you get a shiny gold star from me!

once more with...

I was going to watch me some Sports Night today but ended up going to K-Mart where I bought the sixth season of Buffy so my evening has been spent wallowing in angst and vampires instead. I also bought an ironing board cover and some Ferraro Rocher. I'm not sure purchase I like the most. I suspect it might be the ironing board cover.

My essay has inched up to just over 2500 words. Technically I've only got 500 words to go, but I need to talk about best practice a little bit more then move into technologies and implementation issues before I finish, so it may end up being 3500 when I'm done. At least thing time it won't end up a 4600 monster like the last one did, although I did get a HD for it in the end.

Okay, I had it in my mind to google something. I opened a new tab, typed in the address, but by the time I'd gotten to the page I had completely forgotten what I was looking for. Maybe it was my brain, perchance?

You know what's fantastic? Date and banananana muffins, that's what's fantastic. Especially for breakfast with a nice cup of tea.

Meep, I've just realised. Only three weeks until Sports Night Chat! Must to be getting the viewing list organised and reminding people to download Trillian if the haven't done so already.

But really, maybe i'll just go to bed.

collision course of the silliest kind

Dark Angel is such a silly show, with ludicrous stories and a dearth of good acting. It does, however, have one or two worthwhile features:

1. Jensen Ackles in season two is both gorgeous and hilarious. His comic timing is near genius and how can you not get caught up in that face?

2. Because it was filmed in Vancouver, fandoms do collide and a familiar face occasionally appears that makes you squeak at the TV screen. I was somewhat chuffed to recognize Aaron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica, and I nearly fell off the couch when a familiar pair of hips encircled by a low-slung gun belt ambled into view. Yes, boys and girls, we have achieved CKR!

God, no one can sprawl in a chair like Callum can.

In other news, my essay has completely stalled and Delia is now at the garage where she will no doubt cost me an arm and a leg to get fixed. However the mechanic, picked at random from the brochure the RACV guy gave to me and chosen largely because his workshop is located close to where I live, was very nice and even drove home after I dropped the car off.

I also seem to eating a lot of cheese at the moment, which is not good because too much dairy makes my asthma act up. I really need to get me some vegetables back into my life.

tales from a living room

GAH!

My essay is driving me insane, work has morphed into this weird limbo state while I wait to go on leave for two weeks before I start my new job, work colleague is driving me insane with his incessant outrage at just how f**d up the place is, even though we already know that thankyouverymuch!, and I've developed this odd obsession with Jensen Ackles' freckles and the scar on his chin.

Also, I'm trying to write this fic and I keep getting distracted by homework. Shouldn't it be the other way 'round?

About the only sane thing in my life at the moment is the fic that's being generated by [livejournal.com profile] sn_playbook and the knowledge that in ten days this degree will be toast. Oh, and the Riva coffee commercial which I find wonderfully daggy in the extreme.

At least I didn't find any more traces of Mousey Mousey when I got home tonight, which is something I suppose.
