home again

Hello! I'm home. Home sweet home!

*big happy sigh*

Despite the let down of the last day or so I had a great time in Perth. The weather was just gorgeous the whole time I was there and the city really is very beautiful. I was staying in South Perth, a really pretty part of town just near the Swan River that has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Just what one needs when one is on holiday! I stayed a night out at Rockingham with some other friends where I went swimming and had a day trip to Mandurah; I ate fish and chips and got sun burnt at Cottesloe beach; I got to have lunch the delightful [livejournal.com profile] zebra363 and fell in love with Fremantle even though I didn't get to spend much time there. The zoo was fantastic and next time I go to WA I am definitely taking a trip to the Margaret River and up to Shark Bay.

Coming home was a shock to the system. I had a brief moment of disorientation on the plane when I looked up from my book to find Toby Ziegler Richard Schiff on the movie screen and I thought I was suddenly watching an episode of The West Wing instead of some John Cusack movie. But then they brought out our dinner so I fine after that, and the flight attendant who forgot my bottle of water was very sweet and slipped me a freebie water with dessert. However I've gone from 30C days where I could wander around in nothing but a sundress and thongs, to autumn in Melbourne where there is a definite nip in the air and my (lack of) winter wardrobe really needs to be dealt with. It didn't help that work was insanely busy today, or that I have to schelp up to the old home town the next two weekends in a row so I won't get much time to do things like laundry or grocery shopping.

Oh, and after C showed me an episode of Torchwood where Jack and Ianto were, well...

Okay, so maybe now I have a new OTP. Shut UP!

Hi, how are you?!

shoulda thought of that...

Note to self: You have pale Irish skin, so when you forget to apply sunscreen before going to the beach, of course you are going to get sun burnt.

Doh!

I'm in Perth!

I've taken over C's laptop to update quickly. The flight over was a little turbulent, but now that I'm here the weather is just gorgeous and I've already dragged C out to the Maritime museum and then to have fish and chips on Cottesloe beach. Tomorrow I'm amusing myself and may try and make my way out to the beach again on the bus, and on Wednesday and Thursday I'm playing with friend K who is also out here at the moment. I believe a visit to the zoo is on the cards, which won't be hard considering I'm staying right across the road from it! On Friday I'm going to have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] zebra363, and a trip to the Swan Valley is on the cards for Saturday before it's home sweet home on Sunday.

OMG, so much to do, so little time!

we all have to grow up sometime, i guess

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl, for the fireworks, they're lovely!

I'm in the old home town, listening to my mother phaff in the kitchen and wondering if I should have a shower. I do need to zoom into town to see if Big W is open so I can exchange the DVD I bought yesterday for one that doesn't start skipping after the first twenty minutes, and then we're doing a combined Easter/birthday lunch at my sister's house. Mmmm, roast potatoes!

Yesterday Z officially stopped being a baby when she graduated to sitting in a booster seat at the table to eat her meals. She still gets tomato sauce all over the place, but she's not in the highchair anymore so she is now officially a Big Girl. Meanwhile M is getting cuter and cuter each day and F is so dryly funny I'm certain he's going to become a comedian or something. I love my kids!

Last night my brother made me a very interesting offer that may have serious impact on my financial situation. It's a good offer and one worth considering, so I guess I'll be making an appointment with the financial adviser with the credit union at work when I get home next week. But it's also a very grown-up thing to consider and I'm not sure I'm ready to be an adult just yet!

Supernatural Media have a new Legacy update with three as yet unseen promo shots of Jensen from season two. I think they just may my ovaries asplode! There's also several new Sports Night stories over at the Purim Treat-a-thon to enjoy, and the latest [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction challenge has been very good indeed. Then of course there's Paul Gross. Nuff said. What a great week for fandom!

I'm off on my big Perth adventure tomorrow, woohoo! I'll be incommunicado until I get home next Sunday, so everyone be good, eh? And if you can't be good, don't forget to tell us all about it in lurid detail ;~)

much to do, so little motivation

  1. Obviously I'm not support the posting strike. Mostly because...
  2. ...I'm heading off to the old home town tomorrow for Easter and then flying out to Perth on Monday. I'm not sure if I'm taking my laptop with me to TOHT, but I'm definitely not carting it all the way to Western Australia so I probably won't be online very much, if at all, over the next week. Please, dear flist, try not to be too interesting while I'm gone.
  3. There's a whole slew of new Sports Night fic over at [profile] sportsbackinsn. Why does this have to happen just when I won't be in a position to read fic for a week?
  4. I had dinner at Claypots seafood restaurant last night with A&O and best work friend. Mmm, chili crab and Cajun flathead, yum! We then went onto Ginger in Brunswick street when a chocolate-orange martini became my new  best friend, and a beer at Black Pearl rounded off a highly enjoyable evening.
  5. I'm having dinner tonight with two of the BiL's sisters. The plan is for me to toddle over to their house in Balaclava at about 7pm where we will then venture out to Chapel street for dinner and drinks. I'm going to have a sleep over so I don't have to worry about getting hone and I can just take off for TOHT in the morning, however this also means that I must now get off the couch and do my dishes, tidy my flat and pack for Perth...
  6. ...maybe I'll have another cup of tea and think about it.

my timing could be a wee bit better...

Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone! I wore green today, did you?

I had a burst of nostalgia on the weekend when I found my old copy of Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield in a bookcase at my mum's house, and oops, I'd forgotten that I stole it from the library at my old school. I am such a bad librarian!

I loved that book when I was young(er). Like many girls I had dreams of becoming a prima ballerina while I was growing up and I did take dance classes for a few years before I realised that my talents lay elsewhere. I still love the ballet, though, and go whenever I can. And reading this book the other day brought back a lot of fond memories of leaping about the house in my leotard and ballet slippers to my parents classical records.

*iz a giant dork*

Meanwhile it's still hotter than hades around here, but the bureau of meteorology assure us that the cool change is on its way and the rest of the week will be in the mid to high twenties, as opposed to the current mid to high thirties. I'll believe it when I have to put on a cardi against the evening chill.

One week until I jet off to Perth and I feel like I cannot possibly go until I clean my entire flat from top to bottom. I've been scurrying around since I got home from work, putting things away, changing the sheets and folding laundry. I'm about to do the dishes, and after that I'll sweep mop the kitchen floor and hang my sheets on the line to dry.

Why is it that I only get this urge to spring clean when it's hotter than hell?
