love is in the air

I've just stumbled across the Vintage Pattern Lending Library. I think I'm in love, especially with these. I want a job there NOW!

I'm also in love with the cake I made to take into work for my birthday. Yes, I know, one shouldn't be expected to make one's own birthday cake. However it seems to be a tradition amongst the library fraternity in Australia to supply your own cake on the big day. I've done it with every library I've worked in it would seem odd to not be baking my heart out before or on the day in question. This year my birthday treat for the gang was a chocolate and hazelnut Tyroler cake, made extra special through the use of gluten-free flour to accommodate my colleague who has Coeliac disease. Word to the wise; like most cakes involving chocolate it's even better when it's a couple of days old and has had the chance to mature for a while. OMG, yum!

I'm not so much in love with work at the moment. Sometimes being a boss is hard and I have new found respect for those in charge when, on a daily basis, they are confronted with the neuroses of others and they can't say a thing because it would be high unprofessional, not to mention just plain rude.

Mostly, though, I'm in love with this: )

Need I say more?

a week is better than a day

More birthweek fun! Dinner and drinks with work friends last night that culminated in me and best work friend singing along to all the songs while we watched Footloose. I'm sure her dad now thinks we're completely insane and today's hangover was less than fun, but it was sufficiently cured by the judicious application of coffee, peanut butter toast, Vietnamese soup and take away lasagna for dinner.

Thank you so much for the flowers, [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum, and [livejournal.com profile] in_the_bottle your present arrived and I love it! [livejournal.com profile] slashybits your card arrived as well and it's so cute!

However it can't be all birthweek fun and more mundane things must also be achieved this week. Things like going to gym to work off some of the food and drink consumed over the last few days, vacuuming the living room and getting my tax done so I don't miss out on Rudd's economic stimulus bribe payment. I'm also heading up to the old home town on the weekend and I don't want to come home to the pile of laundry sitting unfolded in the basket. So it's not all fun in Layleeland. No wonder I can't be bothered cooking.

birfday

Tahnk you to eveyone who sent me birthday wishes, shoes, a bottle of bubbly from [livejournal.com profile] katikat and a yummy cocktail from [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl. I took the day off work and I've had a very pleasant time going out for breakfast, puttering around the city and eating hot cross buns for dinner. And since I won't be seeing my family until the weekend and will be caching up with various groups of friends throughout the week, I expect the celebrations to carry on for at least the next few days. I've always been a big believer in a birthday week. Why have one birthday day when a whole week of them is seven times the fun? \o/

of the \o/ and the /o\

Of the \o/

- Had dinner with Best Work Friend and A&O last night. We went to Ladro for pizza and then to the bar formerly known and Yeltza1 for drinks. Much pizza was eaten and much wine was consumed and all in all it was a wonderful evening.

- When I got home from dinner there was a birthday card from [livejournal.com profile] phoebesmum waiting for me in my letter box. It has shoes on it!

- I have a three day weekend, woot!

- I also have banananana muffins baking in the oven, woot!

- My favourite artisan bakery is opening a shop in Station street. Now I don't have to schlep all the way down to Alexandra Parade for the bestest hot cross buns in the world!

- There were two cute schoolboys busking in Station street this morning. I now have the theme from 'Spiderman' as played on the trumpet and euphonium stuck in my head *g*

- I found a copy of The Cutting Edge in Cash Converters for three dollars today. Toe pick, woot!

However, of the /o\

- I was seriously hung over when I got up this morning and have been walking around in a bit of a daze all day.

- I was going to see The Blow Waves with BWF tonight, but she cancelled on me at the last minute and no one else I know is going so I ended up staying home.

- It's supposed to rain tomorrow and I have all this laundry...

- I also have a blister on my foot :~(

I shall thus leave you with some girly wisdom )

1It changed it's name since I last went there, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's now called.

shake, rattle and roll

There was an earthquake in Melbourne today. I felt it and everything! I missed the last one due to inebriation, but this time I was sober and sitting at my desk and all of a sudden there was shaking and rumbling. It was uncanny.

Two days to go until I have a three day weekend, woot!

In honour of the looming b-day I got my legs and eyebrows waxed today, and have work drinks tomorrow and Friday to look forward to. I'm having dinner with A, A & O at Ladro after the work thingie on Friday, and on Saturday night I'm going to see The Blow Waves at The Order of Melbourne, possibly with best work friend. Sunday will hopefully be a day of rest and I have a full day of shopping planned for my day off on Monday. I'm planning on being somewhat pooped by the time Tuesday rolls around, however if all goes well I'll have fabulous new shoes to wear to my meeting Tuesday morning :~)

Aw, Ron Silver died. That is so sad. I loved him as Bruno in The West Wing, and he was always great in anything he appeared in, even if the project its self was pretty crap. RIP, Ron, you'll definitely be missed.

Gah, I was going to go to bed early but now I've been suckered into an episode of CSI. Must find out what happens. Bed can wait. Will be sleep-deprived again tomorrow. Meh.

too busy to breathe

I am ridiculously tired and this week is shaping up to be ridiculously busy. Work is completely OTT for just three weeks into the semester, there are all these work functions I have to attend as part of the library's 50th anniversary celebrations, I have VERY IMPORTANT PRE-BIRTHDAY SOCIALISING to do, and amongst all that I need to find time to get my legs waxed and go to gym, OMG! I managed gym tonight and will do so again tomorrow, but after that there's no hope.

Sometimes I wish I was the kind of person who can hit the weight room at lunchtime, but I'm not and never have been. And anyway, these days I'm lucky to get a lunch break. Usually I can be found devouring a sandwich or reheated leftovers at my desk while answering email, writing reports and chasing up outstanding orders. Life's hard at the top, I can tell you.

Eeee, Denny Crane and Alan Shore telling each other that they love them? Just blows my socks off with glee! And Alec Baldwin? Well, these days he looks a little like a frog with a very high forehead. However he totally rocks in 30 Rock (pun intended1) so you can forgive him the immobile temples and oddly arched eyebrows.

I did have a point that I was trying to make here, but damned if I can remember what it is now. Just I'm just going to have to go to bed instead.

Night!

1Yes, I know, Casey would be appalled, but sometimes a girl's just gotta pun!

we all have to grow up sometime, i guess

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl, for the fireworks, they're lovely!

I'm in the old home town, listening to my mother phaff in the kitchen and wondering if I should have a shower. I do need to zoom into town to see if Big W is open so I can exchange the DVD I bought yesterday for one that doesn't start skipping after the first twenty minutes, and then we're doing a combined Easter/birthday lunch at my sister's house. Mmmm, roast potatoes!

Yesterday Z officially stopped being a baby when she graduated to sitting in a booster seat at the table to eat her meals. She still gets tomato sauce all over the place, but she's not in the highchair anymore so she is now officially a Big Girl. Meanwhile M is getting cuter and cuter each day and F is so dryly funny I'm certain he's going to become a comedian or something. I love my kids!

Last night my brother made me a very interesting offer that may have serious impact on my financial situation. It's a good offer and one worth considering, so I guess I'll be making an appointment with the financial adviser with the credit union at work when I get home next week. But it's also a very grown-up thing to consider and I'm not sure I'm ready to be an adult just yet!

Supernatural Media have a new Legacy update with three as yet unseen promo shots of Jensen from season two. I think they just may my ovaries asplode! There's also several new Sports Night stories over at the Purim Treat-a-thon to enjoy, and the latest [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction challenge has been very good indeed. Then of course there's Paul Gross. Nuff said. What a great week for fandom!

I'm off on my big Perth adventure tomorrow, woohoo! I'll be incommunicado until I get home next Sunday, so everyone be good, eh? And if you can't be good, don't forget to tell us all about it in lurid detail ;~)

it's been one of those day. no, make that one of those MONTHS!

I had a bit of a day yesterday; a day that involved broken fingernails, fillings, falling off my bike, mad conspiracy theorists from Chile and health insurance funds that refused to pay out. However I balanced it all with my Tribute to Johnny Johanssen and very yummy baked mushrooms for dinner. Also, don't knock the healing power of a Cadbury's Creme Egg and a large iced coffee.

Today I also had a bit of a day, but I also managed to tinker with my Johnny post to make it more presentable, be fairly effective at a meeting and go to gym after work - the first time I've been since my week off last week. I also made a reasonable interesting concoction out of pumpkin, leek and garlic for dinner and organised early drinks and dinner for my birthday on Friday.

I wasn't going to do anything much for my birthday this year, but all of a sudden I have at least two weeks of birthday related activities coming up. It's mostly due to the fact that to catch up with everyone I want to see, I have to spread it out over several days rather than concentrating it all into one big get-together. Not that I have anything against an elongated birthday, but I really was hoping to keep it all fairly low-key after last year's shebang :~\

Oh yay, Terminator II is on TV this weekend!
